America’s Secret Motive for War

Posted by Taki Theodoracopulos on March 03, 2007

Eureka! I think I know why the administration is so eager to wage war with Iran. Forget about the nukes the mullahs haven’t got. Forget about the neocons working for Israel. It’s all about ego, old boy, as the great Sherlock told the good doctor. The real reason for American rage against Iran - I wish Seymour Hersh would learn to correctly pronounce that dreary place, it’s not Eyran, but Eran, not a verb but a country, for God’s sake - is the knowledge that the Shiites have made complete fools of them. Shiite exiles like the conman Ahmad Chalabi not only took Yankee gold, but sold them snake oil no five-year-old would buy. They then conned Uncle Sam in removing Iran’s most ferocious opponent in the region, making the mullahs the dominant power of the area. And to top the con off, they got the Americans to back a government whose power depends on Shiite militias and whose ministries are controlled by Shiite militants like Moqtada-al-Sadr. As they say, you couldn’t make it up. No wonder Cheney and the neocons want war. If someone had conned me out of my money, taken my wife to boot, and then sued for alimony, I, too, would go to extremes. Murdoch and Time should hire Chalabi and a few Iranians. Kristol, Podhoretz, Frum and the rest of the bums have been had, by conmen of the old school.

Often wonder if you and your old friend and mentor Arnaud De Borchgrave are still on speaking terms?

Taki,
Perhaps we ought to identify 2 classes of neo-cons - “the bums” dumb enough to “have been had by conmen of the old school”, and those far more sinister.  This second class never believed the rubbish rhetoric about democracy promotion and pluralism, but were nonetheless dumb enough and arrogant enough to think that they could control the Middle East from their think tank offices by manipulating the sectarian dynamics region-wide with ease - a theme I touched upon in my February article in Chronicles.

I just discovered this website, and Taki seems like an interesting kind of anti-war voice, one who breaks the stereotypes.  There are a lot of articles on the web reagarding the war mess we got ourselves into, but I found this psychological analysis to be particularly interesting, and it rings true:

Why Hawks Win

Yes, and it isn’t the first time, either. I still remember the first thing that I thought after I read the Tower Commission Report on the Iran-Contra affair: “My Gawd, that was like the proverbial taking of candy from a baby...our top government officials were the baby...the Iranians must be laughing themselves to death with how pathetically stupid our leaders are.”

Eyran… Eran… why fuss over the pronunciation if you are not a native of Persia?
