Another Milestone in Iraq
So we reached yet another “sober moment”: 4000 dead Americans, 90,000 dead Iraqis, four million displaced persons, 3 to 5 trillion dollars spent, and tens of thousands of our own wounded existing in living hells of their own, with damaged brains and limbs, blind, unable to perform functions like eating or going to the bathroom by themselves, things we take for granted. Things war profiteers like William Kristol and David Frum take for granted. The New York Times groans about war profiteering in Iraq, namely Blackwater. But Blackwater has put its employees on the line and Blackwater operatives risk their lives and limbs as much as the troops do. Not so with Washington war profiteers like the neocons, who continue to cash in on their high-profile jobs on FOX News, their institutes, and the New York Times itself. These vermin make Iago look honorable. They plotted and cheered for a war against a tyrant who not only had no WMDs, but also was the only one capable of keeping the peace among the myriad of factions in Iraq. The only country Saddam posed a threat to, and it was the kind of threat a pastry shop poses, was Israel; so Wolfowitz, Feith, Pipes, Abrams, Perle, the Kagans, the Podhoretzes, Kristol, Frum, Krauthammer, Cheney, Rumsfeld and the rest of the gang, convinced a hellfire-and-brimstone preacher of a president to go to war. If there was any justice, the profiteers and Iagos would be the first ones to pay the piper, but, alas, this is not the case. Isn’t life grand?

Of course, the predominately Jewish neoconservatives pushed this war for the benefit of Israel. The more interesting question is why virtually the entire non-Jewish conservative Republican establishment enthusiastically supported this unnecessary war and continue to support this fiasco and human tragedy? Perhaps I am mistaken, but I suspect that the principal reason Christian conservatives supported this war was to attain financial rewards and social status through access to the Jewish dominated neoconservative media.

To Roland::: which is why they will never have to burn books in the US. Most people who read books don’t understand them. They know “to” read but not “how” to read. The people who do understand them are not usually in a position “to effect” the information or, otherwise, have no intention of “proceeding” with the “insight”. Obviously, most material is agenda oriented...attempting to “animate & mobilze"(concentrate). It is Platonic in nature, reducing “complexities” to “useful” simplicities...facts to formulae. It is nearly impossible to find “authors” who are even capable of discussing origens & causes...much less principles & purposes. The dumbing of the dumbers...the duping of the dupers...offer many advantages & protections to “power” (status quo). No one is left in a position of “strength” to mount or sustain any challenge to consciousness. Others are sent to divert & re-direct....which is where the real sapping occurs(Buckley e.g.)
The best example I can offer is George Orwell. Every American out there has read him at least three times...so much so that “they” all went away understanding, thus, “it could never happen here”...as soon as that “consensus” was affected...the dirty deed was done. Few to this day, in fact, realize that America is Orwell. Thus, “education” is about indoctrination to the lie...and then immunize ‘em against the truth...Mission Accomplished!!!

In Haaretz (2/11/04) an article claimed the war in Iraq was conceived by 25 neoconservative intellectuals , most of them Jews. They wanted President Bush to change history, quite a feat for such a man so limited. On January 30, 2004, less than 2 weeks before, the Philadelphia Inquirer (January 30, 2004) had as a front page story the deaths of 10 Israelis from a bomb while relegating the deaths of 7 GI’s to the second page. The Austin, Texas newspaper serving southwestern intellectuals had the deaths of Jews on the front page with a 5x7 picture while American GIs were on page 5. The New York Sun had Israeli martyrs on the front page while Americans were on page 7. The paper of record, the New York Times had a color picture of the Israel bomb explosion on page 1 with a reference to a long article on page A6. The deaths of American GIs was barely mentioned on page 1 with a much shorter article on page A11. You must know where you are in the priorities of New York Jews and their sycophants in the national media.
After documenting the evasion by Jews in 5 previous wars, I had some hope that in a war so important to Israel American Jewry would have stepped up and done their duty. That has not occurred. With Jews being slightly more than 2% of the American population and almost 4500 American deaths in the Middle East a fair share of the American war dead for Jews would be almost 100. The Jewish Soldier Organization listed the names of 17 Jewish dead in Middle Eastern war on their Wall of Honor. Once again they have ducked American wars. Once again lying and obscuring their lack of valor while shrieking anti-Semitism.
Resident conscience and crybaby for many years at the New York Times, Anthony Lewis, thought legitimate governments like Israel had the right to torture. Mr. Lewis seldom judged American supported governments to be worthy of his support. Mr. Lewis with his global sense of responsibility stated if the United States could not use force to prevent disasters, then the world would be condemned to chaos. Mr. Lewis and his kind would determine what was necessary. Deciphering convoluted reasoning by columnists at the New York Times often times can be difficult. One cannot be too careful. Senator Bob Dole was called an anti-Semite by Mr. Rich for protesting obscene lyrics in black gangster rap music. Senator Dole had to know Jews ran the music business. Steve Ross, born Rechnitz, lied about his military service in World War II, but was excused by a Timesman named Cohen. Later as Chairman of Time-Warner conglomerate Ross merchandised the song, Cop Killers, by black rappers. The song celebrated the killing of police and had the refrain: “Die, die, die, pig, die”. As a promotion gimmick Time-Warner had sent copies of Cop Killers to disc jockeys with the record wrapped in a black vinyl body bag. Mr. Ross was addicted to money. In the fall of 1990 when the build-up for war against Iraq was accelerating, Time had as a cover story “What to Do With Your Money” if and when war came. Not much concern was shown for those without money or for American soldiers. For the affluent, who had no connection with the military, war had become theoretical, except for the area of personal finances. The rich talked about profiting from war with no concern how cruel it must seem for those with sons and daughters in Saudi Arabia. Henry Luce at his worst would never have stooped to such sleaze. But Mr. Rechnitz and his kind now dominate the American media. The triumph of Schindler’s List and its acceptance as truth is the necessary proof. Schindler’s List was dedicated to this louse and was as phony as he.
Israel, which has traditionally been the largest recipient of U.S. assistance, is seeking an additional $2.2 billion or more to help pay for its planned withdrawal of soldiers and nearly 9000 Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip, Israeli officials said Monday. This comes to almost $250,000 per Jew. This figure would enable many Americans to escape poverty, but Congress would not consider that. Israelis are a different matter.
Paul Buch, awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery in Vietnam, remembered talking with Paul Wolfowitz and asking, “Mr. Secretary, I have three requests. First, before you send anybody into Iraq, take the time to create a finite mission.’’
“What’s that?’’
“We learned in Vietnam a meaningful objective is specific, it’s finite, it has a tool of
measurement, and it has a suggestion of a course of action that you can succeed. Do that.’’
He said, “Too tough.’’
I thought, “What - to think or to die?’’
I said, “I have a second request for you.’’
He said, “What’s that?’’
I said, “It’s simple. $1.3 million was not enough for a New York City fireman or a policeman who gave his life on September 11th. And $6,000 and an opportunity to buy $250,000 of your own damn insurance is totally inadequate for a man or a woman in the uniform of the United States who gives their life for their country. How about self-insuring and giving every person who dies in the uniform a half-million dollars so their family lives well?’’
He said, “That’s too expensive.’’
I said, “Then I’m going to live up to another vow I gave some guys. It’s not very expensive. It’s pretty simple. Every night 120 Americans go to sleep surrounded by 100,000 bad guys. It’s a place called the Monastery on the Korean DMZ. They don’t get hazardous duty pay, only $147.50 a month--120 guys. It can’t be that much. But it explains to their families why they are there, why their families can’t visit, why when you want to go see them you go from checkpoint after checkpoint after checkpoint, why it’s too dangerous for a USO show. Just $147.50.’’
He said, “Too difficult.’’’
Earlier in 1991 Wolfowitz made clear his highest sentiments. In taped interviews with the New York Times he betrayed emotion only once when revealing sensitivity about criticisms from senior military officers that during the Persian Gulf war he was overly sympathetic to Israeli concerns. “It gets me pretty annoyed when I hear comments that I’m sort of a one-issue person with unreasonable sympathy about Israel.”
Sensitivity and concern for the Jews of America should be at the very bottom of concerns for Americans not Jewish. Americans have no mandate to make the world safe for cowardly Jews.
Fully 71 percent of Israelis believe that the United States should launch a military attack on Iran if diplomatic efforts fail to halt Tehran’s nuclear program, according to a new poll.
Get ready for another war.

To Forest:: I quess that’s my point. It was a strike, not a hit. Let me try & put it another way. How is it possible for supposedly the most powerful “nation” in history, consisting of 300 million people...to be controlled by a much weaker nation consisting of only 6 million people?...or, how can the same “mighty” democratic 300 mill be controlled by only 6 million of its own citizens?....either America is or it isn’t… what it says it is....if America is, in fact, something other than what it says it is(which I believe to be the historical case)...then you & I have much BIGGER problems than “the Jews”...My reading of history, both past & current strongly suggests the later.
Overall, it is usually “childish” to continue to blame one’s persistent problems on others. Maybe a more productive response would be to inquire and determine… who & how & why “these Jews” & others got “there” in the first place. “In the course of my life I have very often been a prophet, and have usually been ridiculed for it. During the time of my struggle for power it was in the first instance only the Jewish race that received my prophecies with laughter when I said that I would one day take over the leadership of the State, and with it that of the whole nation, and that I would then among other things settle the Jewish problem. Their laughter was uproarious, but I think that for some time now they have been laughing on the other side of their face. Today I will once more be a prophet: if the international Jewish financiers in and outside Europe should succeed in plunging the nations once more into a world war, then the result will not be the Bolshevizing of the earth, and thus the victory of Jewry, but the annihilation of the Jewish race in Europe!”

A few problems with your water coloring;
A;In linguistics and ethnology, Semitic (from the Biblical “Shem”, Hebrew: שם, translated as “name”, Arabic: ساميّ) was first used to refer to a language family of largely Middle Eastern origin, now called the Semitic languages. This family includes the ancient and modern forms of Amharic, Arabic, Aramaic, Akkadian, Ge’ez, Hebrew, Phoenician, Maltese, Tigre and Tigrinya among others.
As language studies are interwoven with cultural studies, the term also came to describe the extended cultures and ethnicities, as well as the history of these varied peoples as associated by close geographic and linguistic distribution. The late 19th century term “anti-Semitism” refers specifically to hostility toward Jews, further complicating the understood meaning and boundaries of the term.
B:"Since Judaism transcends race, color and blood, it also transcends racial and blood descent. Not he is necessarily a Jew who was born to Jewish parents, received a Jewish education and lived in a Jewish environment; but he is a Jew who identifies himself with Judaism. If a Jew ceases to identify himself with Judaism, he ceases to be a Jew. On the other hand, a non-Jew who identifies himself with Judaism, no matter what his race, color, blood and descent may he, he is a Jew to all intents and purposes. If all existing Jews should give up Judaism, they will cease to be Jews. On the other hand, if other peoples should accept Judaism and identify themselves with it, they will become the Jewish people, and they will be the true descendants of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, the Prophets, and so on.-Rabbi Harry Waton
So, the use of the term anti-semite is a misnomer and has nothing really to do with race but belief.

Overall, the oppressing “problems” being discussed have everything to do with what we gleefully refer to as Modernity. Any fair review of modernity would easily reveal that most of its features are not, in fact, modern. The essence of these deformations centers around Mercantilism...which is State direction of “society”, specifically the economy. What we currently “enjoy” would be better cited as “Capitolism”. Real capitalism is a human condition, not an economic method. Real capitalism is the freedom to exercise, employ & retain one’s labour. This condition has NEVER existed for one minute in the history of the world. And if the “boys & the goys” have their way...which they will, IT NEVER WILL.
My overall suggestion is to investigate this issue; believing that any reasonable inspection should most likely illuminate that many of these agonizing problems have much more to do with the Essex Junta...than with Israel or Mexico or wherever....In fact, should the Essex Junta ever be properly brought to “task”: I would anticipate a very rapid dissolution of most of the heretofore referenced difficulties.

Arthur,
You might want to untangle the chain of causality further back to uncover the source of Hitler’s hostility toward Jews. It seems to have started at the end of WW I with the “Dolchstoss” (stabbed in the back) argument, which gave Hitler and many other Germans strong reason to suspect that Jews had manipulated German public opinion in a way which was highly disadvantageous to Germany, but which advanced Jewish national interests.
In practise, the above means that many Germans, including Hitler, thought the British in Balfourt declaration promised Jews a homeland in Palestine, and in return Jews promised to use their excellent connections to radical movements to stirr up domestic trouble in Germany—the timing fit perfectly, since the declaration was in a few months followed by the general strike. That Germans believed this kind of a conspiracy theory is very understandable, since they themselves had just a few months earlier done the same to Russia—Germans simply thought British were using Jews to do a Lenin on Germany. The period of the Dolchstoss discussion is when strong antisemitism first appears in Hitler’s writings. (His writings do show another, more philosophical and truly weird reason for the hostility toward Jews.)
If memory serves me right, there were British Jews at the time who warned about the Balfourt declaration. They saw that Germany was bound to lose the war, and realized that the declaration would inevitably produce conspiracy theories in Germany and with them an intense hostility toward Jews.

To be accepted in what is termed polite society Americans must believe or profess to believe much nonsense. Josef Stalin told FDR and Harry Hopkins that the government of Petain reflected true French sentiment much more than DeGaulle`s. His communists were of little or no consequence. No false sentiment for this brute. There was not a country in western Europe that did not prefer Hitler´s Germany to Stalin`s Soviet Union. The same can be said for Scandinavian countries. After World War II`s end Stalin told his daughter that to h is deep regret Hitler did not observe their non-aggression pact. Together they could have ruled the world.
The three great butchers of the 20th century were Stalin`s Soviet Union, Mao`s China and Hirohito`s Japan. Hitler and his gang finished out of the money. American failure to prosecute Hirohito will be on the future Chinese agenda.
To cite facts denying Jews the right to present themselves as perpetual innocents is not anti-Semitism, but harsh historical truths. Jews have escaped the wars of America by deceitful means, but in the name of the Holocaust demand that others sacrifice their lives and children for them. The lives of Jews and Israel matter far more to American Jewry than their supposed country and countrymen.
Judging from previous posts Arthur Vlartt is of advanced age and much too old to get away with his drivel. As he descends life`s trail, Vartt should try to be more manly and not a common scold.

That said, I intend not to waste anymore time with you save only on the occasion that you exceed the present level of stupidity that you have demonstrated a marked gift for.

Many of the posters on this site cannot speak or write English...although, their Amerikan is VERY, VERY GOOT. I propose to screen for proper English among the so-called indigenous. Thus, those that fail the “mark’ can be legally sold to different “capitals” around the globe to further fund the STATE, the deficits and other fetid national necessities & adventures.
Since Ryan’s english is by far the worst...I recommend that he be auctioned first...don’t worry Ryan, it’s only patriotic, who know’s you might footnote in a high school textbook one day....like Amerikan idle, idol...dude.

Jim,
“ To Kari Konkonla:::whatever the F****k that means...Your problem is your are il-literate....you are a state-hatched prole. ANYONE, not familiar with the disgust, that is English history...should keep his small subsidized “gop” shut FOREVER...” I’m not sure if this counts for anything by your standards, but I do have a Ph.D. in history with a specialty in early modern England. I am thus quite familiar with “the disgust, that is English history.”
To appreciate the development taking place in 17th-century England, you have to place it in the context of the time and place. In late medieval warfare, prisoners were rarely taken, except when there was the possibility for valuable ransom. The standard reward for an army for taking a city was three days of free looting. Please do read up on late medieval Europe, and, for the early modern period, on the Huguenot wars in France, the Spanish operations in the Netherlands and, particularly, on the 30 years war. They will help you to appreciate how different England was.
Furthermore, in England we clearly have the beginning of a trend: there was almost no revenge at the Restoration: not even all the people who had singned the King’s death warrant were put to death. At the Glorious Revolution the king was not jailed or executed. He was allowed to escape and his supporters were in effect pardoned. From that time on—i.e., for over 300 years—mortality in England from political violence has been so small at to be deomographically non-existent. This is a stunning achivement, considering that during this period England went through the massive social chances associated with industrialization and urbanization.

Kari:: God Bless Your Jamesian Soul. First of all, I don’t believe you(that is, your PHD). Now, of course, I realize that they hand them out like lollipoops these days, most egalitarian...to anyone willing or able to fill out the paperwork, for the loans. Also, our teeming, tumultuous “clercs” are those that have especially distinguished themselves as...learning too easily, too quickly;and your obvious mental disposition certainly qualifies you there. However, your references to England & the Middle Ages(which you seem to call Mediaeval) are somehow too distant, too removed....you seem too remote from your very passionate subject. It is not in you & you are not in it. Your unfamiliarity with Cromwell, his behavior & his ancestral “impulses” is extradordinary for an Herr, Doktor Professor.
Please persist, so that I may make it a Spring Rite to fillet you before the Tikee-Takee weld.

This is a stirring story about service to America at its finest. Instead of volunteering, these guys found a calling more worthy of their talents. They became govt. contractors in the best tradition of J.P. Morgan and young Mellon. Check out the photo in the New York Times article. I know you would love to fire some of that ammunition.

To Doktor Kondola & Taki Toynbee::
“The Cabinet had been realizing dimly that the peace of Europe was being jeopardized by the open and increasing hostility between England and Germany, and that the tension over the Moroccan affair, while subsidizing, was still very marked. They felt that Sir Edward Grey’s preoccupation with the European crisis had driven from his mind whatever conception he might have had of the importance of Asiatic problems to the British Empire. This situation, it was clear, was leaving Russia absolutely free to push forward her long cherished plans for the absorbtion of Persia and the establishment of a naval base on the Persian Gulf. Russia could work her will in Persia so long, at least, as she even pretended to acknowledge the Anglo-Russian Convention of 1907, and by this patent subterfuge relieved the British Foreign Office of he embarrassment of explaining in Parliament why Russia had not been held to her signed agreement.”
W. Morgan Shuster, “The Stangling of Persia”, 1912, pg. 178

“With a knowledge of the facts of Persia’s downfall the scales drop from the eyes of the most incredulous, and it is clear that she was the helpless victim of the wretched game of cards which a few European powers, with the skill of centuries of practice, still play with weaker nations as the stake, and the lives, honor and progress of whole races as the forfeit.”
W. Morgan Shuster, “The Stangling of Persia”, 1912, pg. 204
Please remember that Iran was partioned after WW2...half British, half Russian. The Russians were fairly quick to leave. The “cold war” started shortly thereafter. Not in Europe, in the Mid-East.
The Battle of Stalingrad was not about Stalingrad. It was about Baku. Once again, it’s about “Baku”. Should Russia & Iran re-solidify a 1000 yr. old relationship(they share many “common” interests & concerns): they will control 50% of the world’s energy supply. Your standard of living; whether you are a “welfare-stater” or, a “warfare-stater”, or, probably both...would disappear, a long with many, many others. That’s what Iraq is about...that’s what the neo-khans are about....that’s what “Israel” is about.

However, if you feel that you do....please offer your best strategic response....and be mindful, that in reality, your task will require the complete reversal of the last 3000 yrs. of human, geographical history. However, it could be done...but it wll first require a “vastly” improved “metaphysics”. And it is abundantly clear to me...that there is no one who has ever visited this web-site is near “up-to-the-task”.

“As to Jim, I do not think he is an idiot--that’s just for show.” Thanks for coming out of your shell Jim. Your reference to “bildungs philistines” suggests a background in German history, and the level of knowledge suggests an advanced degree. The background in Germany also suggests you probably are not familiar with what is commonly called “Anglo-Saxon Exceptionality.” Do look at my “Meek Imperialists” piece (use Google). It describes an attitude which was powerful in England, but which Germany has never experienced.
As to your reference to Arcadia Conference, please look at Higgs recent work about US entry into WW II on
http://www.lewrockwell.com/higgs/higgs77.html Higgs did not discuss in detail the US-Japan neogtiations to end the oil embargo, and the remarkable concessions Japan was ready to make. That evidence would make his case even more powerful.
As to my motives, one of historians’ key tasks is to learn from past errors so we can avoid repeating them. What intrigues me in Taki’s list of names is how could highly intelligent and highly educated people get things so totally wrong as these people did? How could they possibly fail to see the outcome that actually ensued from their actions? Somehow those people were at the same time both very clever and superhumanly stupid—and this paradoxical personality was by no means limited to Jews.
Investigating a question such as this may not feel pleasant, but we definitely need to find out what went wrong to be able to correct the flaw. Currently I do not have an answer--though there are a number of interesting hypotheses. If you have an explanation, I would like to hear it: How could intelligent, highly educated people lose touch of reality as totally as the necons have done?

Now, before you go off on a “wild-goosed” chase...I know there’s an answer. My question remains...Is it a good answer?...e.g.does that answer cut it, get the job done?

To separate England from Germany is to my mind an extraordinary concept. German Idealism, prepared by the French, who, in fact, imported it from England & re-brandished its “luster”...then generously, following Nappy...re-exported it to the Germans. Hegel has dominated Western “ordering” ever since. Period.
Whether, you view England, America or Germany....first a little Locke till the “dirty deed” gets done. Then, immediately back to Hobbes with an Hegelian chaser.
The incredible numbers of both English & American “thinkers” that were seduced & debauched in Germany starting in the early 1800’s...Emerson & Carlye, Ruskin, Coleridge suffice for now. The Harvard faculty in the 1800’s was over-run with these pricks...That’s where your dear Henry & Brooks Adams came from...and let’s not forget “Superman” was not Nietzsche’s idea...It was Emerson’s.

“A remarkable free press sprang up over night, and fearless writers came forward to denounce injustice and tyranny whether from within their country or without. The Persians were anxious to adopt wholsale the political, ethical and business codes of the most modern and progressive nations. They burned with the same spirit of Asiatic unrest which pervades India, which produces the “Young Turk” movement and which has more recently manifested itself in the establishment of the Chinese Republic. The East has awakened. Persia unfortunately awoke too late. Her futile struggles towards the light were quickly suppressed by a power whose own strength lies only in the path of darkness.”

“When the present Liberal Government in England came into powerit was confronted by a complicated European and Asiatic diplomatic situation. The Russo-Japanese war had left Russia decidedly weak. She needed money to rebuild her navy, to promote industries, to build railroads. France was just a trifle slow in coming forward. Then appeared the brilliant statesman who suggested it was good policy for England to strenghen Russia, and to pour London capital into St. Petersburg. Why? Because Germany was growing stronger and the Anglo-French entente was not deemed a sufficient barrier to German ambitions and hostilities. To build up the war spent Russia, therefore, and to make an entente with her which should do for England on the North of Germany what the understanding with the French had done on the South--that was the plan. Some called it a “drawing a circle around Germany”. The Germans evidently regarded it in that light.”

In the words of Lord Curzon, 1903.
“Our [the British] position in the Gulf depends on very much more than on any treaties we may have concluded. It depends upon the unassailable of our trade in the Gulf; upon our services for the last hundred years; upon the capital sunk there; upon the naval position we keep up; upon the political predominance we maintain; and most of all, upon the fact the the Gulf is a part of the maritime frontier of India in the security of which is involved the security, integrity, and peace of India itself. It means that the Persian Gulf will no longer be ‘mare clausem’”.

Just so you understand Mushareff & Pakistan...why the ISI(CIA//MI6) & the Mossad are a “band of Blood Brothers”:
“One of the results is that there is no longer a “buffer” state between the Caucasus and the southwestern Indian frontier. The overland route to India is no longer safeguarded against Russia. The British control of the Persian Gulf is seriously threatened.
Another is, that the 72,000,000 Muhammadans in India, who have always been a neutralizing influence between the British Government and the Hindoos, have as a result of the attacks made with England’s acquiessence by Russia and other so-called Christian nations of Europe on the Muhammadan states---Morrocco, Tripoli (Turkey) and Persia---lost much of their enthusiasim for the home government. A recent letter from the Mohammedan high priest of India to a former British-Indian official of importance states that after the Pwersian affair the Muhammadans decided to send representatives to the next Hindoo Congress, --a thing which they had previously declined to do.
British prestige has suffered all over the world, and the English people are openly dissatisfied because they can no longer appear as the friend of the weak and struggling nations(sound too, too familiar).”

Jim,
In the late 15th century England was one of Europe’s backwaters. In 1588 she defeated the navy of Spain, then the leading superpower of Europe. By 1700 the British Empire had come into being. All of this happened before the German influence you talk about, i.e., the timing does not fit. If you look at what Englishmen read at the time they build the empire, publishing statistics show religion to have been the overwhelming favorite—I based my work on the most popular authors of the time.
Also, a look at the results of German efforts to build an empire suggests a very cautious approach toward German thinkers. Those thinkers were taught carefully and widely in their home country, and a look of Germany’s actions makes it very difficult to avoid the suspicion that something is very seriously wrong somewhere. You might thus want to be a bit careful.
When it comes to oil and politics, a discussion dating from 1912 is not a good guide to today’s situation. First, modern oil producers need to sell their oil just as much as the consuming countries need to buy it. No government of an oil producer could survive for half-a-year without oil revenue. There is thus no need to apply military force to get oil, because the compulsion will come from those countries’ own population.
Second, West has time after time cleared economical bottlenecks via high prices, which then motivated people to solve the problem using technology and science. On the current energy scarcity, the most promising solution seems to be photoelectrics. The first cells came out in the 1960s, and their cost was abot $ 1,000 per wat of capacity. Current cost is about $ 3-4 per wat--about 70 cents is needed to make solar cheaper than coal. Keep an eye on a company called Nanosolar. Around last Christmas they apparenly started producing cells by printing them directly on metallic folio, and their production cost is rumored to be 30 cents a wat. If this is true, in 10 years we will have energy pouring out of our ears, and oil will be dirt cheap. I.e., history of technical trends would once again repeat itself. Going to war for oil is totally meaningless in this situation.
You still keep avoiding what seems to be the key problem in the current situation: the stunning incompetence (stupidity might be a more accurate expression) of the intelligent, highly educated neoconservatives, whom Taki listed. I am, however, beginning to get the impression that unintentionally and between the lines we may be getting here an explanation of how things could go so disastrously wrong as they did. Are you possibly associated with one of the neocon think tanks?

Kari, now you are goin’ Jerry Lewis on me...which is OK, because Dean Martin was one my boyhood heroes. You could count the number of Englishmen that read, other than the Bible, which was the Protestant replacement for the Pope, like the homily & the organ were the replacement for the Host & the Mass on two hands....you know, subjective judgement but no free will...only in one of your dreams could such a conumdrum be loved & adored.
You ask me, with projected great curiousity, about neo-khan think tanks. I can assure you that Bill & Charlie Koch & Dick Sciafe would have nothin’ do to with the likes of me. You saw what they did to Anthony Sutton & many, many others like him. Taki will explain(Congress of Cultural Freedom, Jeffrey Hart, Darpa. It’s all the same NATIONAL NARRATIVE, kinda like NPR & C- SPAN)......but you, are the other hand, are nearly ideal “material”....so empty, so primed, so willing to learn, so willing to serve.
I suspect that you, like many of your “associates” are always in the hunt for a little walkin’ around, hand-out change....and believe me “oil” money has been greasin’ useful idiots like you since Titusville. Nice try at turnin’ the table… both very informative & very “normalative” to BOOT.
Your comments about 15th Cent are are about as deflective & tragic a non-sequitor, as any autistic stenographer could muster...more later. “Popular authors”?? are you shitting me...no Oprah or Chuck Norris in those days. I’ll bet you were a communications major somewhere along the line...just to be safe.
Finally, sweet Carrie, when I’m not Lord Acton...I’m a Central Banker & have been for nearly 40 yrs...sort of an economic hit-man. And watching a pathetic little babe like you even attempt the arena is just as Amerikan, as it is priceless.
Kari, you are the complete studge-pigeon. If you had written down every thing your teachers taught you Backwards...you might still be in the game.
As for stunning incompetence....you would not know if it was or wasn’t...you are a sharecropper, a permanent onlooker...never a participant. No one who reads you, would let you near anything “vitae”.

“Popular authors”?? are you shitting me...no Oprah or Chuck Norris in those days.” Richard Allestree’s “The Whole Duty of Man” sold about 200,000 copies between 1650 and 1700. Many other books at the time sold over 100,000 copies. I.e., they were owned by about 20-30% of literate househods and about 10% of the entire population—household is they key unit in evaluating the influence of books, because every memember of the family very probably had access to the books in the house. The earliest example of what could be called a bestseller is Parsons’s “Christian Excercises”, which sold 45,000 copies in one year already in 1585. This means somewhere between one fourth and one third of England’s literate households bought a copy of the book during the year, i.e., the book must have been a widely talked about sensation. The publishing evidence on what was going on in England is difficult to refute.
As to me being financed by oil money, wish it were so. Even Taki is not paying me.
The observation of what ensued from German efforts to build an empire brought to mind a thought: look at Bloom’s old bestseller “The Closing of the American Mind.” An intriguing observation in that book was that after WW II German thinking gained very powerful influence in the US. If memory serves me right, Bloom noted that in WW II US conquered Germany, but German ideas conquered the US. He also drew a parallel with the well known case of Romans conquering of Greece militarily, while Greek ideas conquered and corrupted Rome.
Bloom’s observation is intriguing, because a case study of German ideas conquering (corrupting?) US intelligentsia is Leo Strauss, who trained many of the first generation neocons, whose heirs are now committing the stupidities that have such disastrous effect on US foreign policy. So yes, here we do have an example of the phenomenon you talked about: the German ideas you praised are indeed being adopted by US elite. Unfortunately, those ideas are beginning to produce effects very similar to what they did in Germany—those who do not learn from others’ errors etc.
