Chavez in Wonderland (Episode Two)
Why not regulate everything? That seems to be the central canon of what Hugo Chavez calls “Bolivarianism,” which is Venezuelan for bollocks.
Chavez started out as a nationalist, who pledged to clean up corruption, and opposition from the US boomeranged, propelling him into power. Shortly after that, however, he started to go off the rails, perhaps never having been fully on track to begin with. First, El Bufoon-o decreed that, henceforth, all clocks would be set ahead by half an hour “in order to increase the metabolism and productivity of workers.” Now his government has announced that, from now on, the parents of newborns will be presented with a list of 100 Bolivarian-approved names. No others are permitted—or, as they say in the cheesier restaurants, no substitutions allowed.
No word yet as to the penalty for violating this dictum. Let your imagination run wild ...

Can’t wait to see the list of names!
I’m sure it will be alphabetically
listed with “Hugo” at the top.

Mr. Raymondo, people who have George W. Bush as Presidnet
should not laugh at other peoples’ leaders.
Glass houses and stones… Mr. Raymondo.

Why not laugh at them both. The only real difference between the two is that Hugo can’t oppress or kill as many folks as Bush now can. However, he’s cut from the same cloth. He could just use a better speech write. Or, maybe Carl Rove and learn spanish and head to South America.

Oh shut up. We know Justin never voted for Bush, so I see no problem. I find practically every national leader a complete ass, and they all deserve to be mocked.

The people in Venezuela are poor, uneducated,
with a very bad political tradition based on coups,
strongmen, and corruption.
What is our excuse?

The people of America are rich and poor, equally uneducated, with a very bad political tradition based on, uneducated fools voting for their leaders. With equal parts corruption and strong arm tactics thrown in for good measure.
Did you vote for Bush Adriana?

@G
No, on both occasions.
I chose the lesser evil, because refusing to choose the
lesser evil was to choose the greater.

Justin never voted for Bush, and he doesn’t have to answer for the booboisie that did vote for Bush. Hence, I think he is well within his rights to have at any politician worldwide.

@Martin, fair enough
But let’s point out that whatever Hugo’s follies are,
they do not include invading a country looking for
inexisteing WMDs, nor trying to impose democracy at
gunpoint to a place that does not have the practical
experience for it.
Compared to Bush’s boner, Hugo’s follies are rather
petty, don’t you think?

Oh for the love of God! What kind of arrogance spouts such vomit? If someone came to me and said I HAD to name my child something on an “approved” list I’d tell them to F@@@ themselves. That’s not just poor and uneducated thats simply evil.
And you yourself claim to have selected the “lesser” evil. Good grief! How many times do I have to hear that crap come out of the mouths of those who fantasize knowing better?! Chosing any evil is choosing evil… plain and simple. So, Adriana, you haven’t a problem with being a slave to evil just so long as it’s your evil master who holds the whips. What a useful idiot you make.

@david
Are the people in Venezuela not poor?
Are they not poorly educated?
Does not their political history seem to be a collection
of miliary strongment and corrupt politicians, said
tradition of violence and corruptin being the main
cause of their being poor and ignorant? I am not blaming
the people themselves but their ruling class who
only rule for their own benefit.
I make the point that people in those conditions have
at least an excuse for believeing in “saviors” like
Chavez.
The US people are overwhelmingly middle class, with an
abundance of goods that is out of reach of most
Venezuelans, they are all literate, and can find
information readily available to them if only they look
for it.
And they still elected George W. Bush.
Their responsibility is much greater.
As for choosing the “lesser” evil, I would stop, if you
could point out a way of not choosing the lesser that
does not result in choosing the greater. As the with
said, “Cthulhu for President, if you are tired of choosing
the lesser evil”

In Sweden, judges have to approve all baby names. Chavez’s idea may or may not be sensible, but its hardly unprecedented.
