David Horowitz: Caught in a Lie
Poor David Horowitz. The long slide downward has been traumatic for him. Once an author of middlebrow biographies that sold fairly well, today he has become a neoconservative nutball whose descent into megalomania has taken on increasingly bizarre forms: e.g., he recently rebaptized his longstanding vehicle, the Center for the Study of Popular Culture, with the new moniker being the “David Horowitz Freedom Center.” Now he’s gone really bonkers, with his campaign for “Islamo-fascism Awareness Week” on college campuses, which is ironic given that he’s the biggest fascist around. Yet, this morning, he’s topped even himself with an announcement in “Frontpage” that, well, just read this:
“The campaign mounted by campus leftists against Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, which is scheduled to take place on more than 100 campuses during the week of October 22-26 has taken a new turn with the announcement of a counter-protest at the Washington Monument. The protest, which will be called “American Fascism Awareness Day” is being organized by Adam Kokesh of Iraq Veterans Against the War, the Revolutionary Communist Party, Students for Justice In Palestine, and the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee among others and will feature speakers such as congressman Dennis Kucinich and presidential candidate Ron Paul, anti-war activists Cindy Sheehan and Harry Karry and actor Sean Penn. According to a spokesperson for the Revolutionary Communist Party, one of the sponsors of the event, “This is an answer to the Jew Horowitz and the neo-conservative Zionists who dragged us into an imperialist war in Iraq and are spreading hatred against Muslims to support their war plans against the Republic of Iran.”
Wow! Ron Paul, Cindy Sheehan, and the Revolutionary Communist Party—that about confirms Horowitz’s longstanding attempt to smear Rep. Paul by linking him to the “anti-American” far left. There’s just one problem: no such event is scheduled to take place. Not only is there no indication on any of the web sites of the supposedly “sponsoring” organizations, but also the date given for this historic happening—November 31—does not exist. There is no November 31: November only has thirty days.
An alternative explanation: Horowitz and his “Islamo-fascism week” were mocked by this poster which appeared at George Washington University, and this may be his way of striking back: however, as you can see, the satiric poster was pretty obviously meant to needle and not meant to be taken seriously, whereas the Horowitizian production is less obviously made-up: it’s the difference between satire and an outright hoax.
Is Horowitz just a hopeless nut-case who doesn’t care if he’s caught in a brazen lie? We report—you decide.
UPDATE: I just found this article in the Washington Times, which cites the campus Horowitzians demanding the expulsion of the students who dared mock “Islamo-fascism Week.” So, what punishment do they propose for Horowitz, who has posted a completely made-up “rally” linking Ron Paul, the Revolutionary Communist Party and anti-Semitism? How about an apology from The Horowitz—an unprecedented act that would probably cause him to dissolve in a puff of acrid smoke?

I saw Horowitz on C-span 2 the other day spouting his neo-con agitprop. Of course there is no number so that you can call in and tell him what a waste of life he is. I find it funny that he was talking about the Ukranian genocide and the New York Times fraudulent denial of it. Looks to me like he is trying to gain credibility in the eyes of paleo cons by mentioning one of our favorite under studied genocides. Maybe his next attempt to smear Ron Paul will be by endorsing him. I heard that he is going to be at the State Capitol tommorow across the street from where I work. I’ll be there giving my support.

I may be ignorant (OK, on this issue I AM ignorant),
but do people actually pay attention to this David
Horowitz fellow? Does he get coverage on the network
news (which, for some reason, is where many of the “elderly”, that
is people age ~40+, get most of their “news” and
opinions)?
If you’re not covered by the “Big Three” (ABC/NBC/CBS)
then you’re not really a “king maker”, and this
David Horowitz is truely just some guy out there
stirring up trouble - unless he has more power than
I realize, and he just may, I don’t know.

Don’t underestimate Horowitz’ influence among the neocons. Readers of National Review, the Weekly Standard and so on take him very seriously, as do, I’m sure, many Republican politicos.
His book “Destructive Generation” is actually a very insightful critique of the New Left. Unfortunately, Horowitz is one of those who, once the Cold War ended, just couldn’t fathom the idea of the U.S.’ not being at war any longer.

He’s of the same ilk as Hitchens. Uncontrollable rage against anyone with whom he disagrees. And a love of bloodshed (other people’s blood of course), the more the better.
He’s also a buffoon.

So it appears that Horowitz has been tapped
to take a bullet(justifiable criticism) for the
neocon-fascist-prosemitic agenda.
(Prosemitic since any contra movement
is antisemitic; fascist since any contra
movement is declared (by them) to be un-American.)
Rabble rowsers are always in demand when it comes
to pushing vicious baloney on a shocked and numb
public (which is why we are kept in a state of shock.)
Reminds me of a scene in the movie The Man Who
Shot Liberty Valance. After Libety is finally
shot dead (justifiably so,) his two side-kicks
immediately attempt to form a lynch mob to
hang the “murderer” who done him in.
Horowitz is just that: a vicious little side-kick
who serves a much larger and dangerous villain.

...and not just because of this side show event.
His villainy against the TRUE mid-east Semites
is abominable.

The author of that post is Ishmael Vera. It is the only post he made to Frontpagemag that I can find.
http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/authors.aspx?Name=Ishmael%20Vera
But a google of that name reveals that many people have not figured out how to use a calendar.

Although probably the most hated person in the
neocon universe and the last writer (even after
Justin)whom Horowitz or any other neocon would
publish, I still find it hard to believe that H
invented this gathering whole cloth. There must be
something going on that roughly fits what he describes.
. As for quoting Wesley Clark on anything, I am
skeptical as to whether he has the slightest
credibility. This political whore went from
holding socially straight views to being an advocate
of every kind of lifestyle weirdness and affirmative
action giveaway, as soon as he decided to
enter the presidential sweepstakes from the left. He
is no more trustworthy than Rudy, however much Justin
may like what he says about the Israelis.

The post at Frontpagemag was most likely a prank along the lines of the the hoax posters that are creating calls for expulsion of students.
Its odd that when we are “pranked” into fighting a war those that call for expulsion of the pranksters are labled as seditious. It will be interesting to see what The David Horowitz Center for David Horowitz (or whatever name it has now) calls for in response to this one.

@Bezerko,
I have noticed this tactic employed before to good effect. Nice analogy
with Liberty Vallance. They are trying to form a lynch mob, or maybe
the government is just gathering data. Search all internet posts with
Horowitz.

@M.Nucci
Gathering data is most likely.
The opposition knows how well loved
Ron Paul is. Unlike his unaffectionate
and quite disgusting competitors, Dr. Paul
is sincerely admired and adored by his
constituency. He is an honorable man.
This is why they had to run a ruse to see
what reaction would follow. Anything more
would be an out-and-out lie.

David Horowitz is a tragic figure, as some of his work is quite good. Yet he seems unable to rid himself of the red diaper revolutionary spirit and he spits bile at anyone he considers a threat.

I hear all the time that Jews are more clever that ordinary mortals. Jews are more spiritual and caring than ordinary mortals. In a word, they are the master race, both intelectually and moraly considered. That’s what I hear.
When I look around I see none of this.
What I do see is that any attempt to give a realistic acount of Jews gets one smeared as an antisemit. I also see that people can go (and do go) to jail for daring to speak agaisnt the master race…
What gives ?

Bin Laden: There’s two problems with ascribing Horowitz’s douchebaggery to all Jews in general: (1) it’s a glittering generality (2) it relieves Horowitz of personal responsibility for his own douchebaggery.

Well, I’m not really saying that all Jews are like Horowitz. And I’m not really a racist, either pro or anti.
But since a group of people choose to diferentiate themselves, and then claim certain atributes for their group, I think it’s fair play to ‘attack’ them using their own racist abstractions.
