Good Europeans and Bad
NEW YORK—It obviously came from above, the order that is, because I have never seen such perfect temperatures and clearer skies than for the Pope’s visit. And this wonderful Pope, who believes in the strictest doctrine for the church, was greeted by the faithful like a rock star, cheered and applauded everywhere, with people yelling “Wilkommen” in Brooklyn accents and thousands upon thousands waving yellow and white Vatican flags. His Holiness stayed in an upper east-side house, one block away from mine, and watching tough and burly Noo Yawk cops tear up whenever he passed by was a sight to remember. It goes to show that faith is far from dead, at least in this country, and the pope’s beautiful countenance, the peace and hope he projected, rallied us all, no matter the faith.
Goodness was the order for the week, and my friend, Father Boniface Ramsey, who was staying with me, reminded me of it when I told him the only thing Benedict XVI ever did wrong was to fail as an anti-aircraft gunner to shoot down the Anglo-American “luft-gangsters” bombing women and children in the closing days of the Second World War.
“Now, now, this is about loving your fellow man, not shooting people down...” Point taken. And there was so much joy and happiness in the streets as the Holy Father was driven up and down this great city, it was almost as if we had suddenly put all our differences aside and were living in a perfect world.
Benedict reacted to all the pomp the way he always does. He was modest, meek and almost surprised by the waves of nuns, deacons and priests, and humble people from all classes, as they tried to reach out to him. This was a great triumph for Catholicism in America after the dark period of the scandals. The great John Paul met with the man who tried to kill him 25 years ago and forgave him. Benedict XVI met with some of the abused by the church and asked for their forgiveness. He is as great a man as his Polish predecessor, and far greater than any other religious head around. Some of those Muslims preaching hate and death should take a lesson from him. As well as a shave, as far as I’m concerned, I’ve had it with their sensibilities, their non-stop demands of death for others—never themselves—and our pathetic weakness in accepting their cults of death and destruction. Throw the bums out, says I, and keep them out.
During the Pope’s visit, a European friend of mine, who writes for Takimag, was threatened with death by Muslims. He had previously been threatened by the authorities, European authorities, with arrest for writing nothing more inflamatory than what I’m writing now. Hence he is writing under a pseudonym as he fears for his wife’s and children’s safety. And this is taking place in Europe 2008.
In an impromptu talk, the Pope spoke of St. Peter failing, failing and yet becoming the rock the church had been built upon. In other words, try and try again, with joy and enthusiasm. I agree, but as my ancient Greek ancestors said, Sin Athina ke Hirakin, we believe in Goddess Athina but we also need to help ourselves.
We must do something about the Fifth Columnists among us, which are the Islamists. We must do something about Israel holding us hostage to its brutal occupation of Palestinian lands, which we, the West, as guarantors of Israel, are held responsible for. Europe has to wake up and vote out of office any appeasers towards violent Islam and violent Likud. Anyone who threatens our freedom of speech has to be deported immediately, and to hell with his human rights, we are not the ones responsible. Or jailed for the duration. There are many among us who have given up on Europe, and write in order to remind America what can happen to it when professional politicians play it safe and look to cover up rather than correct. Hillary Clinton has just pledged that if Iran attacks—listen to this—Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the UAE, she as president would nuke Iran. She is mortgaging America’s future—the Clintons have collected more than 18 million big ones from the Saudis alone—in order to protect the very countries which are holding us at ransom with their oil prices. Forget about human rights violations by those countries, forget about Israel’s human rights violations against millions of Palestinians, just get the votes. Be ready to press the button to save some of the world’s most repressive regimes because the Arabs have the moolah and the Israelis have the votes. And people still go weak at the knees when this monster drives by surrounded by her goons. Go figure.
And it gets worse. Some clown by the name of Jones writes against “the slippery sleazeball and the far right” in a tabloid in England. He means Berlusconi and the Lega Norte, a party which is anti-immigration. When clowns are given the right of their opinions in major newspapers, it’s time to immigrate. Italy is sinking under the weight of illegal immigration. It has open borders everywhere and they’re pouring in. Berlusconi will try and do something, which should have been done long ago. He’s called a sleazeball as a result. The Lega Norte, like the Flemish Vlaams party in Belgium, does not wish to end up like the Dutch, held hostage to fanatic Islamists. What is so sleazy about that?

I wonder how the pope, whose praises you’re now singing, would react to your amusing little anecdotes about past dalliances with prostitutes and your liberal attitudes thereto, eh, Taki?
I wonder what he said to the mass murderer Tony Blair as he welcomed him into the catholic church?
Yes, yes, yes....agreed! Threats of death and violence are terrible......NO MATTER WHO DOES THE THREATENING!
I am a catholic and a sinner as well but i’m just saying that perhaps we should concern ourselves with our own - much greater, of late - misdeeds before looking to constantly bash, scorn, mock, demonize and belittle muslims.
As long as your talking expulsions, why not send you back to Greece, eh....and myself to Ireland! I wouldn’t like that. The whiskey is good but they don’t have hockey and i loath what the americans have done to irish dancing.
I won’t hold my breath. I know you never deign to reply to mere mortals.

Foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.

Very well said, on the whole. Thanks a lot! With the small exception that the last pope is burning in hell for causing the death of uncountable aids victims, just as the present one who’ll follow him soon as well.

What of INconsistency then, eh? Is it the equivocating flummery of dishonest minds?

What Taki doesn’t seem to realize is that there are tens of millions of Muslims who agree with the Pope that religion--ANY religion-- outweighs “liberties” and “conscience” as a value.
But one thing Taki says here makes a GREAT deal of sense: Keep the Muslims (almost all Muslims) out of Western, secularized societies; not for the sake of those societies, but for the sake of the more spiritual Muslims, who--like the more seriously spiritual Catholics--are deeply offended by what passes for a “civilisation” on the streets of Taki’s beloved Manhattan, and other Western Sodoms. They cannot endure, in any kind of state of psychic health, what goes on here, and so they react violently: Keep ‘em out, for their own sakes, and for the sake of world peace!

50 Hail Marys and 10 Our Fathers then all is forgiven!

I don’t know of too many deeply spiritual Catholics reacting violently to our “civilisation”.

Why, o why, o why, do some of you even read Mr.Theodoracopulus’ articles?!
Is it because you find it forbiddenly titillating? And do you then respond in order to exhibit to the world your wanton venality and intellectual impotence?
The author apparently personally knows some people who are capable of considering the source and context of his comments, as well as appreciating artistic language.

Wow there Taki, us Dutchies come in all shapes and all sizes—not all of us are sitting, waiting and watching the fire burn.
Tell me this, what other European country produced, now world famous, Islamcritics like Fortuyn, Hirsi Ali, Van Gogh and Wilders? They have their faults, sure, but most of them are opposing Islamism with all the means they have. There are a lot more Islam-critics in Holland. The Left is in serious decline here and Islam is under fire.
Hey, I’m still waiting for some French, German, Italian, Spanish or British equivalent of Dutch critics. I haven’t seen them yet. Maybe, Ibn Warraq, Henryk Broder or Finkelkraut? That’s about it. (Oriana Fallaci is dead, so..) Concluding: there aren’t many.
It’s a tough going, but we are in a much better position to criticise and fight Islam than most other European countries are.

I believe Hillary threatened to nuke Iran if it started a war with ISRAEL and not those countries Taki mentioned. Which would make much more sense considering the brown-nosing competition towards the Jewish interest groups most politicians habitually engage in.
John McCain wants to; “Bomb-bomb-bomb, bonm-bomb-bomb Iran”. And that’s regardless of whether the Iranians start a war with Israel or not. He’s a bit “better” than Hillary then. Maybe if Hillary threatens to nuke Iran TWICE would be advantageous to her?
Obama hasn’t yet uttered anything like these two credos, so I bet you all he won’t win. And he hates white people, like his wife does, his preacher, some of his fundraisers and the present and former terrorist groupations that support him, like the Black Panthers and the Weather Underground. That shouldn’t be viewed as a minus though. White people are generally too dumb to reject phenomena that are threatening their existance.
Good article on the Pope.
For all you bad people bashing the RCC and the Pope. Say 50 Our Father’s, in Latin, and all will be forgiven.
Pater noster qui es in coelis,
sanctificetur nomen tuum.
Adveniat regnum tuum,
fiat voluntas tua,
sicut in coelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie,
et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostri,
et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo.

To Maciano:
If the Dutch are in such “good shape” to fight the Jihadists, then why are so many of your anti-Islam critics winding up on a slab or requiring police protection? And what about the Dutch Christian prelates who are calling on their flock to pray to Allah and celebrate Ramadan, to appease the terrorists living next door? If wimpy Holland is the best the West can offer, we are doomed.
Fortunately, I think there’s still hope for my nation. Do you notice that Moslems riot in Holland and France, but not in New York and Texas? That’s because they’d get their heads kicked in.

@Marie Claire
Why they’re threatened? Well, probably because Holland is just as liberal and “wimpy” as most of the West. We’re no exception. Do you seriously think that Wilders would be completely safe in say, Sweden, the US or Japan?
Who’s saying “the best”? Get real. We’re just not the worst, which would be France or the UK, at least imho. Now, these countries are out for self-destruction. Just don’t confuse Dutch politics with Dutch public opinion.
(Also, you can’t compare the US with Europe on the immigration issue. We’re facing entirely different problems.)
Nobody’s ever doomed. The future is undecided and unpredictable.

Agapite mou file, Its good to see your health is improving,it shows in your writing.Once again with a martial art combination of wit and quill you arouse the VOLK to the parapets to defend against the approaching horde from the east. Now my take on IMMMIGRATION. As I was leaving my local country club CASTELLO TAVERNA located in village kastelos pop.100 on the isle of crete,Three young dark skinned men wakled in.Now the locals(members)no strangers to swarthiness themselves were a bit surprised to see this particular brand walk in to this small tavern(country club) located in the mountains. My self being a native of the BIG GYRO(astoria nyc) living in self imposed exile began having a flashback I was the only white guy on this huge line at the DMV in college point Queens. As it turned out it was the usual immigrant story two hindus and a pakistani(go figure) selling CDS.The point being even here I had that feeling there is more of them than me.I dont have a problem with MCism as long as my culture is the majority of multiculturlal. CHRISTOS ANESTI

I had the wrong impression of you Taki, ie I thought that you would be a sensible rationalist who rejects religious faith for the nonsense it is. Religious faith is totally without evidence, and it’s encouragement by peaceful believers legitamises the faith of the extremist, murdering Islamists you and the rest of us deplore.
