Obama Bows and Scrapes

Posted by Justin Raimondo on January 31, 2008

From one of my favorite liberal Democratic bloggers:

“The most pathetic thing about Barack Obama’s efforts to bow and scrape for AIPAC are that the AIPAC crowd has been suspicious of him from Day One and his pandering doesn’t change the fact that they don’t like him. Why not just accept that he’ll have to live without that small segment of the public and stand up for a more reasonable policy? Instead, he seems determined to pander in vain.”

Why the pathetic pandering? Just ask Wesley Clark.

Ha ha ha poor Obama the more he grovels and the more votes he gets, the more vicous AIPAC gets. That said, I’ll take Obama any day over Hillary or McCain.I hope he wins and has a long memory.I sure hope Ron Paul runs third party, so I can vote.

If you take out Ron Paul from the equation and look at the remaining field of candidates from both parties, Obama doesn’t come out too bad and there is a libertarian rightwing case for Obama. He is talking seriously about tax cuts and seems significantly more skeptical about big government programs to address poverty than Hillary. He seems like he wants to significantly cut back on the warfare state, and in his last debate with Hillary mentioned the “2 trillion dollars wasted” on the Iraq war. He is receiving a lot of support from the powerful antiwar wing of Democratic party and these activists likely would be well represented in an Obama administration. He is of course excellent on civil liberties. His election to the presidency would undoubtedly help race relations at home and would help America’s image abroad. Furthermore, he probably will have to move to the center (and on some issues to the right) in the general election as he is perceived as very leftwing and as a “black” candidate.  His pandering to AIPAC is the one big negative. Obama should show some guts and take on AIPAC. All he has to say is no more blank checks and blind eyes for Israel, and AIPAC should be treated as a foreign lobby (like other nations).

Wow, no GM, I totally disagree with you on Obama. He is the worst gun-grabber among the candidates (yes, he beats Hilary), supports intervention in Darfur, and is also for the ‘free’ health care soon to be robbing more money from our paychecks.  And that ‘2 trillion dollars wasted’ im sure he’d just divert to whatever his pet socialist cause of the week is.  Tax cuts? Dont make me laugh.

“He seems like he wants to significantly cut back on the warfare state”

You’re kidding right?

Except for Dr. Paul they are all awful, but Obama is the best of the rotten apples.

Wether or not Ron Paul runs third party I am going to vote for him.  Time to let the game fixers know that we don’t have to play their game.  The only way you are not wasting your vote is to vote for someone who resembles everything you stand for and is not asking you to make huge concessions regarding war, abortin, taxes, privacy, and civil liberties.

@ Daniel Maxwell: To be clear, I am supporting Dr. Paul for as long as he stays in the race; and I hope Dr. Paul runs through the general election. In my comment, I was simply making a lesser of four (or five if you think Huckabee is viable) evils argument regarding the remaining candidates in the race when you exclude Dr. Paul. I would be the first to admit that Obama is not someone at this point to get excited about. But when you compare him to McCain, Romney, Huckabee, or Clinton, I would say he is the most likely to extract us from old wars and the least likely to get us involved in new ones. For this reason alone, he is worthy of support when you compare him to McCain, Romney, Huckabee, or Clinton.  And I do think he is the most likely to cut back on the warfare state when you compare him to the above candidates.

I think Obama will be OK, he seems to have a moral compass and a sense of equity and fairness. He needs, though, to cultivate more courage. I hope he’d begin to redress the outrage of the Iraq invasion.

Our country’s unprovoked war on Iraq has left more than 1 million innocent Iraqi civillians dead. As a nation, we should begin to atone for this unspeakable act of brutality by first charging Bush and his collaborators for war crimes and crimes against humanity, after that cabal is removed from power.
