Obama the Anointed

Posted by Ron Maxwell on June 04, 2008

Although its their own internecine fight, I have been impressed at the main stream media’s manipulation and outright partisan interference in the Democratic primary. One doesn’t have to be a fan of the Clintons to see what’s going on--long before Obama finally went over the top in terms of delegates, we witnessed an overt attempt by the main stream media to anoint a nominee months before primary elections are held and decided.

They have pursued an overtly anti-democratic process, with their own cadres of pundits and commentators dictating the desired or forecast results prior to millions of their fellow citizens having the opportunity to vote.  Let us recall, that until recent history, presidential candidates were selected at the convention, following roll-call votes by the state delegations. Until such roll-call votes are held there is no official candidate.

Led by Tim Russert since early February, all of MSNBC and most of CNN has not only declared Obama as winner, they have been an echo chamber for Obama’s campaign to urge Clinton to drop out and concede or to ridicule her for not doing so. “Its inevitable” they keep repeating. Then, following up on their arrogant prescience they belittle every subsequent primary victory for Clinton, even when won with lopsided 70-30 percent margins.

What Russert and his counterparts in the media have ignored is that since the Rev. Wright and Obama San Francisco comments, Clinton has won nearly every single primary. In other words, the better the public gets to know the real Obama, the worse he does at the polls. This is why they have wanted Clinton to quit, the earlier the better.

If ever there was any doubt about the media’s bias and partisanship--it has been dispelled by their incessant calls to hound Clinton out of the race. Even reasonable Democrats must see this now.

But what occurred this past Saturday at the Democratic Party’s rules committee must make every freedom loving American shudder.

Hundreds of thousands of voters from Florida and Michigan had their votes canceled out, divided up and re-apportioned. Why should it matter what conflicting Democratic committees said at the time or what any of the candidates said at the time?  The irrefutable fact of the matter is that neither election was canceled. Both elections were held and the citizens of both states went to the polls in an open, fair and democratic election fully believing they were casting votes to decide who the Democratic nominee for president would be. These voters, and by extension the entire American electorate, were deceived, betrayed and disenfranchised.

Unlike the craven mainstream press led by Russert, Matthews and their network political experts, I view this as no insignificant matter. It is not, as they would have us believe, a trivial matter of arcane rules and regulations. It is a direct assault on our liberty.

We’ve seen and heard it all before--the commissars in the Soviet Union interpreting election results. “Well,” they say, “there was bad weather in the Ukraine and the miners couldn’t get to the polls that day. Should we penalize the miners? Of course not. The miners, had they shown up, would have voted for Vladimir. Everyone knows that. To say otherwise is to be against the miners. It is to be against the true Will of the People, which only we can devine. So, we’ll assign their votes to Vladimir.”

How many times on Saturday did we hear the phrase that should make every free citizen shiver, “The true Will of the People.” “We know what the voters of Michigan or Florida intended to do, because we have the exit polls, or we have the MS-NBC poll, or we have the anecdotal evidence.” Instead of simply counting votes, which is the only fair thing to do with votes in any election anywhere - the members of the Democratic Party Rules Committee deem it in their purview to decipher votes, interpret votes, translate votes – anything but count them! Then, to add fantasy to falsehood they insisted on conjuring votes that were never even cast. After all, so goes their illogic, if voters didn’t show up who otherwise would have, its up to the Committee members to discern how they would have voted if they did.

The fact that this committee of self-appointed commissars met at all, with the intention to nullify or change election results is appalling enough. The additional fact that the media was silent in the face of this monstrosity is cause for grave concern.

Studying the tapes of Russert, Meet the Press, MS-NBC, Chris Matthews, CNN, the political consultants at CNN and MS-NBC one will discover the frequent instances where these most interested partisans announced the primaries over, anointed Obama and called on Clinton to quit or repeatedly echoed the calls of those who did.

Then there are the proceedings of Saturday’s committee, replete with phrases, quotes and assertions that are nearly word for word identical to proceedings of the Soviet Central committee, texts from meetings of the Comintern, and speeches from Fidel Castro or the Sandinistas. Long live the dictatorship of the Proletariat!

If anyone has shown their true colors in this election season, its the left-wing radicals who control the Democratic party and their partisan allies in the press.

Excellent analysis. I hope patriots throughout the nation wake up to the Neo-Marxist Nightmare and starting fighting back. It is not enough to politely disagree with Marxists. They must be fought aggressively.

Here is the last line of Obama’s Democratic primary victory speech given last night:

“This was the moment—this was the time—when we came together to remake this great nation so that it may always reflect our very best selves, and our highest ideals.”

“Remake” this “great” nation?

The essentially radical term “remake” needs to be reflected upon.

When has a United States President ever suggested such a thing?

Why would anyone write a speech with these words? Why would anyone need to remake a great nation?!

Obama’s statement is not only an insult but it’s an incoherent statement.

If a nation is great, then why does it need to be remade? The answer is Marxism. The answer is that Obama is lying in the first half of the statement and revealing his true self in the second half of the statement.

For 20 years Obama immersed himself in Black Liberation Theology i.e. radical race-based Marxism. And now the craven mainstream media has emphatically declared that that is not a disqualification for the highest office in the land. Think about it, folks.

That damn liberal media and those tycoons who own it....

Hmm. I guess Ted Turner has decided to fund Mr. Maxwell’s latest box office bomb on the war between the states.

Back to making kid’s movies about manure for you!

Excellent commentary. YOu didn’t mention the 1968 convention, in which this sort of thing first happened.

The Democrats have been making Jack-Asses of democracy since 1968. Note they have been losing
elections since then as well. History repeats itself.

Very illuminating. I have a bachelor’s in PoliSci, and I believe I pay rather close attention to the mechanics of US politics, but I’ve always been somewhat mystified by the process that only delivers pre-selected candidates for our approval; the mysterious “black box” that each party uses to produce the most viable CFR clone.  This election season has exposed the details of this magic show clearly, if any one cares to follow it (Thanks internet!)

Mr. Maxwell is exactly correct in his analysis.  The so-called “mainstream” media have played a key role in selecting the two major party candidates this year.  In particular, the management of the news coverage of Obama has been a text book example of how the message the media puts out can be controlled in a virtually totalitarian manner.

Having experienced the power of selecting Obama as the nominee, the MSM isn’t likely to back off now.  Unlike in the past, it appears unlikely that the MSM will “tear down” their own creation, in this case Obama as the messiah.  And this may also be what the future looks like, namely a super powerful but illegitimate elite dictating through means both soft (manipulation and disinformation) and hard (speech code/hate laws, destruction of the economy for the working classes) to an increasingly ignorant and uninformed “public.”

BTW, I have enjoyed Mr. Maxwell’s movies and recommend them to all.

In response to Jeff Albertson’s post - I think it’s all about who the media chooses to give constant exposure to.  That’s where the poll numbers come from, since the vast majority of the electorate pays little or no attention to day-to-day politics.  Why, then, Obama?  He certainly doesn’t have the experience of Biden or Dodd, but the media decided to anoint him.

The internet is a valuable tool for combating this media dominance - it took Ron Paul’s campaign much further than would have been possible even five or ten years ago.  But those of us who are intelligent and engaged enough to read and understand political blogs are still a relatively small minority compared to those who passively receive their “information” from the TV talking heads.

How long do you think it take the MSM to call for McCain to throw in the towel?  After all, polling data suggests Obama is ahead and continuing this campaign through November will just make it harder for the nation to heal once the inevitable happens.

i don’t agree with your analysis… neither does a new study of primary coverage by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism and the Joan Shorenstein Center on Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard University.

Ah, the great Ron Maxwell.

I do agree with his comments..as much as I dislike Clinton, I did the unthinkable and actually felt sorry for her.  Ever since Super Tuesday, we have heard the echo for Obama, even down to the level of the local newscaster. Even some of the so called ‘right wing newstalk radio’ has joined in the chorus. (The idiotic ‘libertarian’ Neil Boortz has foolishly claimed up and down that the media has been in Clinton’s corner....does this man not watch TV, ever?)

Now, of course, she holds the (slight) majority of popular vote.  For a party called the ‘Democratic Party’ the democratic thing to do would be to have either counted FL and MI or redo them.  Not this half for me, half for him thing.

the citizens of both states went to the polls in an open, fair and democratic election fully believing they were casting votes to decide who the Democratic nominee for president would be

No, they didn’t. They went to the polls fully believing that they were participating in meaningless beauty contests. Or stayed home, because they didn’t see the point in participating in a meaningless beauty contest.

If Hillary Clinton deserves delegates from Michigan and Florida, then dammit, I want Ron Paul to get delegates from all the straw polls he won.

The primaries after said Obama exposes were determined by demographics. In this sense, they were almost pre-determined, except and insofar as Obama’s campaigning was able to move the polls (something which he is able to do almost everywhere he goes).

This piece is almost self-contradictory, mentioning the Reverend Wright and San Fran comments issues while at the same time claiming media bias in favor of Obama. I mainly get my news from PBS and online, but I didn’t see the bias myself. But admittedly I do not like Clinton, so maybe we each saw what we wanted to see in the process.

The comments about last Saturday’s credentials committee meeting are not even worth commenting on. No offense, Maxwell, but you sound like you belong on Townhall.com.

Not only the above, but I have more respect for your average American than to suggest their thoughts are simply implanted into them by the mass media.

George Wallace had a big lead in the popular vote in 1972, when he was shot. Do you think they would have given him the nomination? Hillary Clinton never would have got the vote she recieved without Rush Limbaugh shilling for her and getting stupid Republicans to vote for her. Rush was working for the neocon dream ticket of McCain and Clinton. Obama has kissed every ass in the Israeli Lobby 10 times over, yet they don’t quite trust him. Well! they are stuck with him now. As for Hillary Clinton if they burned her at the stake, I would want to light the match.

I George W. Bush was installed by this kind of process Naomi Klein would have said fascism had finally arrived!

Like many people I suppose I enjoyed the
house from Kansas droping out of the sky
onto the witch, and seeing her stocking feet
shrivel up.  But of course when the whole
house comes down its going to be crunch
time in Munchkinland.  In my opinion as far back as
the New Hampshire primaries were tallied it
has been clear, no matter who won, that the American
people would be the loosers in this election.

I agree with Jesse above, and would add that Clinton came out of Saturday with MORE than she deserved, not less. For better or worse, voters across America have been voting in PARTY PRIMARIES and as such have to deal with PARTY RULES. The DNC had stripped Florida and Michigan of ALL their delegates, something Clinton herself went along with when she was “inevitable,” until it was convenient not too. So for Obama to be given some delegates out of the process is just slightly righting a great wrong--namely, that anyone got any delegates out of those states at all.

Jon Stewart offered a great mash-up of clips from late 2007 and before, of all these same MSMers criticized above, talking about how “inevitable” Clinton was and simply effusive in their praise for her. The media isn’t primarily concerned with ideology, but with sensation. That’s a problem, yes, but it’s not the sinister vote-manipulation the author makes it out to be.

I don’t see what all the fuss is about the votes not counting in MI and FL. This was not an election, it was indicating a preference of candidate for the Democratic Party. So said party has the right to make the rules. They told the state parties in MI & FL that moving their primaries as they did would result in loss of delegates. Obama and most of the other candidates respected the rules of the national committee and did not even campaign in those 2 states. Hillary did, and then claimed ‘major victories.’
She is also claiming to have won ‘the popular vote.’
Big hairy deal - those don’t matter.
It’s up to the DNC to select the candidate that the CFR wants them to run, however they need to change the rules to achieve that result.
I’m not sure what the CFR has against Hillary - I’m sure she’s just as much in their pocket as Senator McSame.

As much as I abhor Obama, I can’t feel sorry for Hillary Clinton. The old saying - “What goes around, comes around” - applies so ironically to her situation. The Clintons are as devious, underhanded and corrupt a pair of politicians and they are getting back what they gave out for so many years. The mainstream media has delusions of grandeur and will make or break you. This time, Hillary was on the losing end. Obama, the empty suit, reaped the benefits. Plus ca change, etc.

Great article.  I had the same feelings watching the DNC meeting.  I was shocked to see such vote assigning on TV. I am glad you have raised your voice to speak out.  The comparisons to the Soviet Union are
right on.

Obama did lose support in primaries from what he got before the Wright and bittergate stories came out.  Obama is a manipulated choice.  The whole process was manipulation in our face.  People should feel it and speak out.
