Pushing Putin into the Cold
A year after taking power, in June 1934, Adolf Hitler made his first visit abroad—to his idol Benito Mussolini in Venice.
Babbling on incessantly about Mein Kampf and the Negroid strain in Mediterranean peoples, the Führer made a dismal impression.
“What a clown this Hitler is,” Mussolini told an aide.
Two weeks later, Hitler executed the Roehm purge and murdered scores of old Stormtrooper comrades. In late July, Austrian Nazis, attempting a coup, assassinated Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss, a friend of Mussolini whose wife and child were then his guests.
Il Duce ordered four divisions to the Brenner Pass and flew to Vienna to vent his rage and disgust with Hitler. He called a summit at Stresa with Britain and France to agree on military action should Hitler make any new move in violation of Versailles.
At the time, however, Il Duce was also plotting revenge on Abyssinia for a bloody border clash with Italian Somaliland.
Mussolini thought his Allies would understand if he invaded the Ogaden to add an African colony to his new Roman Empire, just as the British and French had so often done in previous decades.
Mussolini miscalculated. Morally outraged, Britain and France went before the League of Nations and had sanctions imposed on Italy that were too weak to defeat her but punitive enough to insult her.
Friendless, isolated and condemned as an aggressor by Europe, Italy and Mussolini had nowhere to turn now but Hitler’s Germany.
Thus, over the fate of an Abyssinian slave empire, Britain drove her faithful World War I ally into the arms of a Nazi dictator Mussolini loathed and had wished to confront beside Britain. And Abyssinia was overrun.
Are we making the same mistake in the Caucasus?
Mikheil Saakashvili started this war with his barrage attack and occupation of South Ossetia. Russia’s war of retribution was far less violent or excessive than the U.S. bombing of Serbia for 78 days over Kosovo, or our unprovoked war on Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, which has brought death to scores of thousands, or Israel’s 35 days of bombing of Lebanon for a border skirmish with Hezbollah.
Yet, declared John McCain of Russia, “In the 21st century, nations don’t invade other nations.” Even Dick Cheney must have guffawed.
Russia must get out now, adds Bush, for South Ossetia and Abkhazia belong to a sovereign Georgia. But when did Bush demand that Israel get off the Golan Heights or withdraw from the birthplace of Jesus, which Israelis have occupied for 41 years, as he demands that Russia get out of the birthplace of Joseph Stalin, which Russia has occupied for two weeks?
As Israel was provoked in 1967, so, too, was Russia provoked.
Russians died in Saakashvili’s attack, as American died in Pancho Villa’s raid on New Mexico in 1916. We sent “Black Jack” Pershing, future Gen. George Patton and a U.S. army 300 miles into Mexico to kill Villa. Was this proportionate?
If we proceed on a course of isolating Russia from the West, keeping her out of the World Trade Organization, throwing her out of the G-8 and ending cooperation with NATO, where do we think Russia will go? Where did Il Duce go, when he was excommunicated from the West?
Condi Rice compares Vladimir Putin’s action in Georgia to Leonid Brezhnev’s crushing of the Prague Spring in 1968. She raced to Warsaw to ink a deal to put 10 anti-missile missiles and U.S. Patriot missiles manned by Americans into Poland.
Does the Stanford provost have any idea where the end of this road lies, upon which she and Bush have started the United States?
What do we do if Russia responds to our Patriots in Poland with the Russian S-300 anti-aircraft system in Iran and Syria?
If the United States intends to bring Georgia and Ukraine into NATO and arm them to fight Russia, why should Russia not dissolve the Treaty on Conventional Forces in Europe and move her tank armies into Belarus and up to the borders of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania?
Would we send U.S. troops into the Baltic republics to signal that we will fight Russia to honor our NATO war guarantees? Which NATO allies would fight alongside us against a nuclear-armed Russia?
If we bring Ukraine into NATO, what do we do if Russified east Ukraine secedes and Russia sends troops to back the rebels? Do we send warships into Russia’s bathtub, the Black Sea, and commit to fight as long as it takes to restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity?
In March 1939, Britain pledged to declare war and fight Germany to the death to guarantee the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Poland. How did that one turn out for Britain and Poland?
Before we start down the road of isolating and encircling Russia with weak NATO allies, let us think through Gen. Petraeus’ question in 2003 about Iraq, “Tell me, how does this thing end?”
But, then, these folks never seem to think anything through.

Please for the sake of the world’s surival BEWARE of putsch cultures. They are usually island
cultures like England’s and Japan’s (she now neutralized and much more aware of herself, then
even England today - believe it or not) and of course the Judaic and floating around the
world island, though now centered in Jerusalem, putsch culture. What they all have in COMMON is
the overwhelming Feeling from the past that they MUST dominate at all costs, or they will
perish. Yes it’s anachronistic in today’s world (though they seek a world that will
justify their beliefs), albeit that no longer extant star - that light or Feeling still reaches the shores of their hearts. America is subseqeuntly the most irrational (way too imbalanced in the
‘putsch’ direction--instead of ‘putsch’ others have called it crackpot ‘realism’ but it’s more it’s cutural) and so
now the most dangerous nation on earth today because she is dominated at home and
subsequently ruled too by the judaic putsch mentality. That’s why today even we, with all of our power and prestige, a blanced budget after Clinton - even loved by the world after 9/11 - in five brief years have irrationally squandered it ALL. Insanity is the ‘belief’ if we keep putsching in this same
direction, we’ll get a different result. However if catastrophy is really the intention
and hidden agenda for America - well, keep putsching.

Pat and I don’t always agree on historical interpretation, but today he drove the nail home in one. Mussolini prevented Hitler from grabbing Austria in 1934. He advised Austen Chamberlain (Neville’s brother and a real friend) that this time he’d been able to stop the little bastard by himself, but that next thim Hitler would be too strong. Benito wanted a British-French-Italian-Austrian alliance to wall Hitler off, but Britain and France wouldn’t play. So in 1936 Hitler reoccupied the Rhineland while Britain and France dithered; Italy was in no position to go it alone.
Can anyone imagine anything more pathetic than Butch and Missy Prissy getting all self-righteous about Russian agression? Sort of like Britain and France, the two most imperialistic powers in the world getting self-righteous about Italy grabbing Ethiopia. I’m not saying that Italy was right, but look who was talking. But of course Americans either disdain history or badly misinterpret it. Go Pat!

compare Pat’s acuity for recognizing the complex historical analogy to the neo-cons, who think 1938 was an everlasting year: is there really a question of who has the deeper understanding of history’s arc?

Sorry for posting so much - I’m not going to post for a number of days after this to give it a rest:
I’ll just add to yours Reg by then the western banking cartel’s debt financing system a rothschild’s construct via London & New York/Washinton D.C. was already long in place since before World War I, and being *defended as well, just like it is today. ‘Give me control of any nation’s currency and/or every nation’s currency and I care not who makes its laws.’ That is the lever and source of hegemonic power of the relative few in the western oligarchy over everyone else. And then it inevitably just continues growing to
include all industry, press, media, governments, etc. except it doesn’t actually work because it ultimately requires its next infusion of capital or resources from elsewhere if inflation is to be kept under sufficient
control. Sort of like teaching wolves to wag their tails except then there’s finally to be a price (war, depression, etc.) later, but that is in this system or scheme ok – because that is later. Then it finally comes, that later is now. But they don’t want to give up their scheme or ‘system,’ or even adjust it, since
then they relinquish some of their ‘power,’ for the good of all. Once we use money, that’s the blood or juice and you always have to be checking it and reporting on it and following it once it’s a debt system, because
the rest of it in this system/scheme is only window dressing. If you have your straw in the milkshake and are sucking it all out and really enjoying it and 4/5ths of the way through (later is now) and someone says
‘come let’s go, come on, leave it,’ naturally you’re reluctant. History since the debt system is still relevant
and important, sure. But we need to keep it simple because that’s also history and the there-there story
since its inception, and now ESPECIALLY today. Of course not a word about that anywhere though to speak of, is there? Even at the time of its critical mass. It’s like HUH? Or is it me, I guess I must be stupid – that’s always my hope. Better dumb, happy and healthy than the next nuclear shadow on the wall. Right?

Well, the reason that the sanctions against Mussolini’s Italy by Britain and France were weak was because the USA was shipping Italy as much as it could as fast as it could.
And if we want to go back to the thirties, we might as well recognize that the 3.2 million Sudedenland Germans in four provinces, mistreated and discriminated against, would rather have reverted to Germany after having been ‘given’ to Czechoslovakia after the Versailles Treaty...but wait: isn’t this in some way reminiscent of the situation in South Ossetia, what with the people there having Russian passports and all?
And what with the Israeli operators in Georgia, and all the propaganda directed against Russia by the neocons in the last few years maybe it’s payback time for Russia for locking up all the oligarchs and confiscating their loot or scaring them out of the country after they cleaned out everything but the kitchen sink during the 90s (even Aeroflot’s bank account was cleaned out)...we have a situation where a faction is able to direct the USA against any foreign country it chooses to settle scores with, using the blood and treasure of the US taxpayer. That’s kind of reminiscent of the thirties, too.
These days, it’s hard to believe it would come to this, but I think more truth can be had from Pravda than the stenographers we call our ‘news’ media.

Mr. Buchanan sums it up best:
“But, then, these folks never seem to think anything through.”
Combine that with Putschist frame of mind so well described by Jeff W. above and what you get is:
Mein Kampff by Hitler, and “A project for a new American Century” courtesy our Trotskyite friends aka “neocons”.
Each of these ideologies fails to address what happens when the other guy hits back. Each paints the opponent as sub-human and incapable of fighting back, each lays claim to “manifest destiny” or “the chosen people”.
The great irony is that we are so gullible that they can hijack countries like Germany or Italy, and now the United States and set them off on the path of self destruction with such ease.
But then “thinking things Through” may not be enough when your frame of reference is what you inherited from Trotsky and Hitler.

I love how Pat is beating the Neocons at their own game - they’re the ones who revel in the Hitler analogies. Where or where will they find their footing now?
BTW, if you haven’t seen it, watch last Friday’s McLaughlin Group. It was almost enough to restore my belief that something really can be done about the hole we’re sinking further into.

I never miss McLaughlin when PJB is on.... ‘bout three four weeks ago, that neoshrill zionist agent zuckerman was babbling on ‘bout the financial system.... bailouts and all.... and Pat issued the most refreshing *SMACK DOWN*.... in a moment of refreshing candor, Pat declared “YOU folks will be fine/YOU folks will be taken care of”.... Pat’s ire was raised - and little morty was taken aback - “US folks?”.... “US folks?”.... in typical McLaughlin show fashion, this little exchange was minimized and quickly out of focus - BUT, ‘nuff was caught - first time I heard Pat actually name the j_ _....

Pat does great on McLaughlin and so does Clift as of recent. Although usually he quietly lets that unreal Monica Crowley give her rambling speeches on neo-con alternative history. Last time though he was incensed.
I don’t see who is going to stop the neo-cons from getting their war with Russia. Not the American people who see American involvement and subsequent defeat wherever it is as some sort of righteous display of might; and might makes right. Most European leaders are also complete neo-cons and Brussels ensures that the people don’t get much of a say in anything. So a new warm war is inevitable. Unless Wolfowitz/ Berezovsky/ Soros manage to “remove” Putin or achieve a peaceful color revolution and regime change.

Great piece. Russia certainly had a right to chastise Georgia for its surprise attack that killed 15 Russian soldiers in South Ossetia. As is their wont, they have gone further than they should have, but the focus needs to be on repairing the economic and structural damage in Georgia and the two “independent” statelets.
Rearming Georgia while it has a president who clearly lacks good judgment would be a rash act.
By the way, there are still one million unexploded cluster bomblets littering the south Lebanese countryside, courtesy of the Israelis. Their insane over-reaction inflicted $7 billion in property damage, and killed more than 1000 Lebanese.
Click to flag this comment as abusive
And while Israel was cluster-bombing Lebanon, many around the world, including some rather significant leaders, were urging the US to use our influence to get Israel to agree to a truce. Our Secretary of State, Kindasleazy Rice, primly stated that there was no point in promoting a ceasefire until conditions were ripe for a lasting one. At the same time USAF transports were rushing more cluster-bombs to Israel. The current administration speaks with great moral authority, doesn’t it?

I am very sorry but was not it due to powerful pacifiers of Hitler across the Anglo-Saxon world that he was able to take power, build his army, and trick the German nation into launching the biggest military offensive of the 20th century? As for Russia, I would rather take the line of those who have actually won, like Margaret Thatcher. You confront dictators (Putin) and you encourage positive change (Georgia). We all know from the experience that appeasement does not work. Anyone can produce their version of history, does not mean it is true.

Mr. Cristo,
Life can be beautiful if one can always blame someone else for one’s difficulties, right?
The issue with the German invasion of Poland, and later the Soviet Union, is not as simple as comic book hisory would have you believe.
The Poles were murdering ethnic Germans at a frightful rate, 35,000 to 50,000 by different accounts.
The Polish government, emboldened by the British defense guarantees would do nothing to stop this carnage. Further, Polish intrusions into German territory was costing German lives.
After NUMEROUS diplomatic attempts by Hitler to stop this killing, efforts which Britain did not support, he ordered the invasion of Poland. BTW this incursion into Poland was deemed justified by some British diplomats.
You might wish to read some Polish newspapers published between the wars to get an overview of Polish attitudes.
The invasion of the Soviet Union was simply a pre-emptive strike that beat the Communists to the punch as it were, by exactly one month.
Stalin had planned to begin his invasion of western Europe one month later. There are a number of books published by Russian and German historians that substantiate my assertions.
A good place to get information on inter-war European thinking and diplomacy is a website http://www.sweetliberty.org under a subheading ‘How wars are made’.
Hitler did not have to trick the Germans into anything because he delivered on his promises to improve the standard of living, which he really achieved hands down. He simply advised the Germans, and I have seen enough of his newsreel speeches to confirm this, that they would have to produce any increase in living standards “with their own two hands”.
Compare this with the rubbish we are all fed by our “leaders” today.
Just a mild rebuke to Mr. Buchanan when he wrote about Hitler’s “babbling” during his visit to Mussolini. I take it this was as reported by an Italian, right? I will leave it to you to decide on who was babbling.

It is a tragedy that the comments section of Paleo-con sites are constantly being invaded by pro-Hitler lunatics.
Could Mr. H.F. Wolff please supply quotation and citation of his comment “The Poles were murdering ethnic Germans at a frightful rate, 35,000 to 50,000 by different accounts.” Please, I would like to know the accounts.
Please, let’s have quotations and citations so that we can all see the types of sources you are using.
And let’s get this out of the way, I’m half Polish by ethnic ancestry, so I’m biased. Or maybe I’ve been duped by the world Jewish propaganda machine, which has covered up the truth from historians for sixty-plus years. Oh, wait, credible historians are part of the world Jewish propaganda machine. Wait, all people who don’t insanely rant about Jewish world domination are part of the world Jewish propaganda machine.

Mr. Rutowicz,
“...invaded by pro-Hitler lunatics.”
Why are you concerned what “lunatics” say??
Assuming for the moment that you were inadvertently a little loose with the language, why not re-read my earlier post above and pursue the references I have cited.
Being “half Polish” you do speak/read some Polish, right? Then you should have no problem at least perusing Polish documents.
Bear in mind that Germans have been accused of having gassed 6 million Jews. Academics who have disproven this lie are in prison in Germany.
You, on the other hand, are free to disprove my assertion without fearing any repercussions. And I at least am always willing to be corrected with documentary or forensic evidence, of which, BTW, there is absolutely none to substantiate any claim of “6 million”.
Remember that name-calling is the final refuge of the out-argued scoundrel.

“POLAND FROM THE INSIDE by Bertram de Colonna, 1939
DEATH IN POLAND by E.E. Dwinger, 1940.”
For the record, here are two sources Norman Davies does not even bother referencing. Norman Davies is the British historian who wrote one of the most definitive histories of Poland in any language, “God’s Playground: A History of Poland.” Now, admittedly, Davies is rather pro-Polish, but I think he can be forgiven for ignoring SS-Obersturmführer E.E. Dwinger’s assertions of Polish atrocities against German minorities as being a little biased.
Richard M. Watt describes Hitler’s take on Polish “atrocities” as follows: “…on August 23, [1939] Hitler was handed Chamberlain’s letter by British Ambassador Sir Neville Henderson. A virtual shouting match ensued with Hitler screaming a tirade of complaints and recriminations against the British and Poles. He charged that the British guarantee to Poland had encouraged Poland to perpetrate “atrocities” on its German minorities. He swore that his armies would march with the next “Polish provocation” at Danzig or the Corridor. As soon as Henderson left the room, Hitler turned to an aide, slapped his thigh, laughed, and said “Chamberlain won’t survive that conversation; his Cabinet will fall this evening.” – p. 409. Bitter Glory: Poland and Its Fate 1918 to 1939, Simon and Schuster, New York, 1979.
Watt is referencing S. Aster, 1939: “The Making of the Second World War,” p. 334.
Hitler’s invasion of Poland was not some spontaneous reaction to Polish “atrocities.” Case White had already been planned. German troops were massed at the frontier. Polish “atrocities” against German minorities was simply transparent German propaganda to justify the invasion. But there I go again, parroting the sanitized, politically correct account of history.

“Polish “atrocities” against German minorities was simply transparent German propaganda to justify the invasion”
You idiot...the graves of the German civilians should suffice
to prove that indeed Germans were being dragged and kicked out of their homes by Poles.
You want a false. made up story? How about the FACT that you cannot bury 750,000 bodies in an area that could at most hold 1/10th that
duhhhh
or you could just ask the simple questions
Why is it ONLY people who argue about the 6 million Holohoax lie are the ONLY people in prison?
Answer this question or lose all credibility
Why is it even a CRIME to say 6 million Jews were not killed by the Nazis?
BTW...when are we going to have a Nuremberg trial for all the mass murdering Communists many of them Jews?
The evidence of their crimes is indisputable...and many Jewish and non-Jewish Communists are still alive!
So where is the show trial?
Suppose you’re going to say Jews had nothing to do with Communisms murder of 100 million people...including MILLIONS of Christians in Russia, Ukraine, Estonia and many other places
We in America are living under Jewish media/government control...and now millions of dumb goy are waking up to this fact...uh oh
anti-Semite?!
That’s MR Anti-Semite to you! :)
Yep...we’ve had enough...and guess what?
We’re going to spend our lives getting back the dream that was America for OUR posterity...OUR founding stock!
Or should we just submit to the slow motion genocide “you people” are so obviously excited about when you parade headlines like “whites will be a minority by 2042” sooner than we hoped, er um, thought.

Mr. Rutowicz,
Thanks for your references; I shall read them in due course.
I suggest you look over the web site sweetliberty.org sub-heading ‘How wars are made’. Note that that web site is neither a discussion nor opinion blog. It is a library with much documentation from between the wars.
The book by Bertram de Colonna, who is British, says nothing about Polish atrocities but merely describes conditions and treatment of various minorities in Poland after WWI.
You of course are free to give credence to any source you wish; however, I have not seen any credible dissemination that refutes the German claim of the murder of between 35,000 to 50,000 German civilians by the Poles in formerly German lands.
What do you think of the Katyn Forest massacre and the fact that German soldiers were executed for its perpetration???
Mr. Taylor, I feel the same outrage as you do.
