The SPLC Feels Your Hate

Posted by Marcus Epstein on April 17, 2008

Recently, the Associated Press breathlessly proclaimed, “Number Of Hate Groups Rising, Report Says,” parroting claims from the Montgomery, AL based Southern Poverty Law Center.  Despite the group’s assertion, there is not a proliferation of hate groups, just an ever expanding definition of “hate” the SPLC uses to include perfectly mainstream conservatives and opponents of illegal immigration, most recently the Federation for American Immigration Reform.

With funding from groups like George Soros’ Open Society Institute, The SPLC has an endowment of over two hundred million dollars, making it “the nation’s richest civil rights organization” according to USA Today. The SPLC was founded to push typical liberal advocacy on issues like homeless and prison, but it made its reputation by winning high profile law suits against cartoonish Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazi groups. There are some serious First Amendment issues behind these lawsuits, but it is hard to have too much sympathy for such extremists.

In the last few years, the SPLC has used its reputation as the leading opponent of hate groups to go after conservatives who they group together with marginal, but genuinely violent and racist, organizations. In 2003, the SPLC documented how hate has gone “into the mainstream” and accused the major conservative foundations—Scaife, Olin, and Bradley— as well as the American Enterprise Institute, the Free Congress Foundation, and David Horowitz’s Center for Study of Popular Culture of “spreading bigotry.” In 2004, the Center went after Christian conservatives like James Dobson, Jerry Falwell, and James Kennedy for their criticism of homosexuality, holding akin to “blood libel against the Jews” and making the charge that Christian conservatives “subject the objects of their scorn to the very real possibility of violence and even death.” They have since list organizations like the Young Americans for Freedom and the Traditional Values Coalition as “hate groups,” on the same level with the Ku Klux Klan.

In full disclosure I have been attacked by the Southern Poverty Law Center last fall. They don’t cite a single word I’ve written or spoke, but claim I’m “a man with a network of racist connections.” The extent of my “network” is that I work for Pat Buchanan who they call a “white nationalist,” am facebook friends with a Washington Times reporter, and once had a panel on race with an editor of National Review and an African American conservative from the group Project 21. I will also mention that I’m half Asian and half Jewish.

In the last year or so, the SPLC’s main focus has been trying to keep opponents of illegal immigration out of the debate. They recently named the Federation for American Immigration Reform as a hate group. FAIR is the largest immigration control organization in the country. It is official policy that in their opposition to mass immigration, “there should be no favoritism toward or discrimination against any person on the basis of race, color, or creed.” FAIR has a number of minorities on staff and the group has done a great deal of outreach on the negative effects illegal immigration has on blacks and legal Hispanic immigrants.

If you look at the SPLC’s profile on FAIR, they do not list a single “racist” statement” ever written for a FAIR publication, made on TV or at a FAIR event by one of their staffers, or uttered by one of their experts at Congress.  Instead, they take quotes—many of which are perfectly defendable—made by the FAIR’s founder (who is no longer involved with the organization) John Tanton focus on other “hate groups”—real or imagined—that Tanton is tenuously linked to.

The SPLC does not hide the fact that they want to FAIR to be blacklisted from the mainstream media and Congress.  If they can successfully silence FAIR, then they could do the same to many other anti-illegal immigration groups who they will no doubt “link” to their newest hate group.

The SPLC justifies their suppression of free speech by the supposed rash of anti-Hispanic Hate Crimes caused by the rhetoric from FAIR as well as Lou Dobbs, Glen Beck and Pat Buchanan.  In their report “Immigrant Backlash, Hate Crimes Against Latinos Flourish” they document a grand total of four murders and fourteen assaults—many of which were robberies or bar fights—over a period of three years.  The four murders included a yet to be convicted border patrol agent who claims self defense, an African American serial killer with no apparent racial motives, and a Hispanic killed by a racially mixed group of people.  Most amazingly, the SPLC included the wrongly imprisoned Hispanic border patrol agents Ramos and Compean as “hate crime” perpetuators and use examples to claim there is a epidemic of race hate against Hispanics sweeping the country.  Of course, the SPLC is not concerned with the over 2,100 people murdered by illegal aliens each year.

Compared to the ACLU and other left wing legal organizations, the SPLC’s agenda is not known to most conservatives.  I am shocked at how many have not even heard of the organization.  The ACLU pushes policies we strongly oppose, but the SPLC tries to keep us from even being allowed to oppose them.  While the ACLU’s agenda is well known, the press routinely quotes the SPLC as a non-bias watch dog that “monitors the Ku Klux Klan and other hate groups.” The New York Times recently reprinted an infograhic as if it were fact without any commentary.  The SPLC uses their “hate crime training” to law enforcement outfits across the country and its “Teaching Tolerance” series is used to indoctrinate students at Public Schools.

Across Canada and Europe, conservatives have been fined and even jailed for making statements critical of homosexuality, radical Islam, and illegal immigration that you would not be surprised to hear from Sean Hannity or Ann Coulter. Fortunately, we have the First Amendment, but well funded groups like the SPLC are doing everything they can to get around that and silence anyone to the Right of John McCain. We ignore them at our peril.

Comments

Briget Bardot was recently charged with a hate crime in France for speaking out about immigration and how Islamic people were hurting France.

I read an expose of the SPLC about a year ago in E.Michael Jones’s Culture Wars.  Subsequently I received a solicitation from the SPLC for money for their wall of tolerance that they are erecting.  They have made quite a good deal of money scamming from the Klan, etc.  The Klan must be pretty tapped out that they are going after our own Marcus Epstein.  What I want to know is how is the SPLC not a hate group by their own definition?

There is no way to stop the SPLC because America is dumbed down and soothed by the drone of big media.  Consider the following:  Wolf Blitzer, a former AIPAC lobbyist, is our mid-east reporter for the “most trusted name in news.” Nobody notices this because most Americans are either dumb or dumbed down.  In regards to hate crimes, I challenge any liberal to identify a minority group who faces murder at the hands of white americans at even one tenth the rate of the reverse.  Facts are dead, long live fantasy!

“In the last few years, the SPLC has used its reputation as the leading opponent of hate groups to go after conservatives who they group together with marginal, but genuinely violent and racist, organizations.”

That seems to be the Marxist SLPC function, used to discredit conservatives, their positions, and their policies. It’s actually a clever tactic: fight true hate groups, start mixing them in with conservatives over time, and pretty soon neo Nazis and anti-illegal-immigration activists are one in the same in the public’s mind. This is a tactic emulated across the Left. Ironically, it is now emulated by the Right, as Obama and the Democrats, for example, are grouped in with anti-American Leftists like the Weather Underground, Wright, and “terrorists” like Hamas for Jimmy Carter’s visit to Palestine.
What’s the endgame for each? Authoritarian control over society. Power. The spoils of big government.
Who represents the interests of average Americans and their values in the squable? No one. Which is why America is increasingly a fallen nation.

The SPLC is not a Zionist group, Joe.

They shill for Islamists like CAIR, while smearing anyone to the right of Netanyahu.

Ron, my Wolf Blitzer comment was not meant to tie SPLC to zionisism, rather, it was to demonstrate the lack of source checking and objectivity in big media that goes unnoticed by the public.

Joe, the big media broadcasts should come with a disclaimer.

This broadcast and the material in it were manipulated to project a ficticious worldview that thinking people will clearly recognize as eroneous.  The opinions and facts, such as they are, are those of AIPAC, the corporate military complex, and the SPLC.  Any actual facts that are contained herein is clearly unintended and in effect dumb luck.  Since most of you watching this can in no way be considered thinking people we are sure you will find the content quite suitable and rest assured that although things seem a mess, your superiors are working hard to keep you safe from yourself and any other harmfull habits you may develop.

Well said Mr. Nucci.  A republic should be influenced by powerful special interest groups, however, this influence is supposed to be objectively criticized by the media.  If media fails to perform its duty, government becomes a tool of the few.  It is for this reason that consolidation of media outlets is more offensive than consolidation of other industries such as oil, telephone, steel, etc.  It amazes me that the Newscorp purchase of WSJ was allowed by the same government that worries when MSFT decides to make their web browser a desktop browser.  In the grand scheme of things media may be somewhat more important than an OS, unless you are an Apple zealot.

“There are some serious First Amendment issues behind these lawsuits (against more extreme groups), but it is hard to have too much sympathy for such extremists.” Fair enough, but then you also say, “...there is not a proliferation of hate groups, just an ever expanding definition of ‘hate’ the SPLC uses to include perfectly mainstream conservatives and opponents of illegal immigration, most recently the Federation for American Immigration Reform.”

But that’s how it works, by attacking the really fringe groups who receive no aid, the next ones on the margin are set up for attack and they will receive no aid. It’s a constricting circle and cannot be stopped. When you define the outer limits of acceptable discourse, you will find your limits reduced similarly...and soon. Asians and Jews are not exempt from this process.

Of course, a good offense against SPLC could work wonders, but that won’t happen, either.

Then Jet you must be well heartened to see that the SPLC is doing God’s work in advance for him.  I personally take a different view of hate.  I don’t believe that people hate arbitarilly.  People have suspicion, maybe even fear, but usually from a real life solid experience.  I don’t see the need for a group that goes around attacking fring groups that hurt no one for our collective protection.  As Don pointed out these groups have an agenda and that is to include legitimate conservative groups as targets of their hate legislation.  At the heart of anti-hate groups is an evil premise that supposes to look into the heart of an individual and see their innermost thoughts.

“Now why would a Jewish guy, named Soros, back an anti-hate group? Gee, I cant seem to think of any reasons off hand...”

I’m so sick of authoritarian control freaks invoking the Holocaust as a rationale for their Red-fascism. Jewish Bolsheviks and their Stalinist partners murdered millions of Christians in the Soviet Union PRIOR to the Holocaust; by holocaust industry logic, the Marxist SPLC, the Marxist ADL, and most of the other quasi Marxist Left liberal and Neocon think tanks and organizations should be considered hate groups, too, and Christians should thus be entitled to use the federal government to put them and their sympathizers in a free speech straight jacket as beyond the pale of civil discourse. But that’s not the case.
Why do left liberals, Jewish charlatans and Marxists get to define what is “hate” and what isn’t? Because they are largely in control of government and media, and thus get to use it to bash those who oppose their caste, whereas most Christians and regular Americans live their lives without scheming for control and coercive powers over how people think and feel. Now Right wing control freaks are emulating their tactics.

Interests that constantly invoke the Holocaust for power and profit always like to argue that the Holocaust itself justifies their authoritarian power grab and their attempted monopolization of government. These people just don’t understand the concept of liberty, nor the foundations of America; freedom is alien to their way of thinking, because so much of their identity is based upon scheming for control either to prevent the “other” from harming them, or to use government to extract resources from the “other“ and channel it to them and their cronies.
What came first, the authoritarian scheming, or the retaliation? If on looks at how Jewish Bolshevism, Stalinism and its murderous nature contributed to the Holocaust, the answer is clear. The Jewish Bolsheviks begot the Nazis just like the SPLC, the liberal media and other Marxist sympathizers begot Hannity, O’Rielly and the other big-government Right demagogues.
As far as I’m concerned, they can all go to hell. They deserve each other.

I dont think SPLC ever said it is doing Gods work, nor did I say they were. Please dont pin your imagination on me.

So, Nucci, what good comes of hate, arbitrary or not?

Fringe groups do hurt people, take Tim McVeigh for one example.

This is one of my pet peeves - painting people into convenient groups of their own choosing so they can then attack them. This strawman argument is a form of demonisation to be sure and I dont agree with it no matter what group is taking part in it. KKK, the Nazis, conservatives, democrats, liberals, the SPLC, the skinheads, the gangbangers, the atheists.

I am not defining hate, I am saying EVERYONE needs to stop hating. Marx, Stalin, Hitler, SPLC, ADL none of these groups form my opinions. Nice try at pinning your strawmen on me however.

“I am not defining hate, I am saying EVERYONE needs to stop hating.”
Then why are you implying Jewish Marxist hate groups like SPLC/ADL are justified in their reactionary hatred and authoritarianism due to the Holocaust? BTW, veteran Timothy McVeigh and his partners were a creation of Iraq war I, which was also fought, in part, for Israel. Remember how Saddam then, as in Iraq war II, was compared to Hitler?
Left-liberals are so intellectually lazy and soft, they make the perfect useful idiots for every demagogue who comes along and starts yelling “stop the hate.” I think political correctness has dumbed them down to an extent that all they can do is mutter simple-minded Marxist slogans. They’re clearly now more brainwashed than most of the Christian sects they hate so much, which historically, at least had, to stay nominally literate in order to argue over the bible. I think we’re entering an era of reverse evolution, moving towards an idiocracy made fat, dumb and compliant by the Red-fascists at the top. The idiocracy will be much easier to enslave than Christians ever were, which is why the Soviet Marxists were forced to slaughtered them by the millions. Very messy business, so the Red-fascists in America are using a different tack.
Any left-liberal who thinks simply electing the politically correct wing of the Red-fascist combine running the federal government is going to make the world a better place is either simple-minded, or has been brainwashed by the public schools and the Church of Political Correctness to such an extent that they’ve lost all their powers of intellect and reasoning.

“I am shocked at how many have not even heard of the organization.”

There have been numerous articles written that have called them out beginning with one from Harper’s. The $PLC even went after the Greens which they countered.

Okay, which SPLC troll posted the link to National Alliance? Marxist tactics ‘til the end, eh? The difference between paleocon-libertarians and all the Red-fascists out there is that PL’s can disagree with someone without scheming to send them to the gas chambers or the Gulag. If only the same could be said of the Marxists, Zionists and the Nazis and their petite versions in America, including those well ensconced in the two party system.

“Now why would a Jewish guy, named Soros, back an anti-hate group?”

SPLC is not an anti-hate group. They are an anti-white group. They almost never speak up for white victims of black hate crimes. But when Jared Taylor does speak up for a voiceless people being robbed, raped and murdered daily because of their skin color, the SPLC attacks him.

The SPLC has blood on their hands.

Soros is himself a grand hater/resenter.  Therefore it makes perfect sense that he chooses to underwrite organizations who prosecute - which is to say persecute - any person or group which might appear to threaten his paranoid and lu$tful manipulation$ of the We$tern power $tructure.

Lesson to holocaust survivors and their progeny: don’t become that which hated your kin unto death.

And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up.”

The ingnorance of those at this site is a sad specticle.

Soros Gyrogy is no Jew. His father Tivdar, an atheist like George, had the family declared Magyars (Hungarians) not Jews in the 1930’s. Little George spent World War II not in fear of the Nazi Holocaust but aiding it. He was a member of the Arrow Cross youth, actively helping to appropriate wealth and property from condemned Jews.

He is no Jew, but an unrepentent nazi-allied war criminal.

He has spent his wealth for the last 20 years, attacking ISrael, while making money destroying countries and thus creating more anti-Semitism among the ignorant.

Soros is the perfect antisemite.

Anti-Semitism binds the Jews together.  Soros and his kind know what they is doing.  If the Jews hadn’t been driven out of Europe would there be an Israel today?  I think not.

Laurie,

i don’t understand. Are you suggesting that Soros’s goal is to promote Jewish unity and Israel?

This from an unrepentant collaborator in the Holocaust, who now funds anti-Zionist organizations?
