We Only Mock What We Love

Posted by Taki Theodoracopulos on April 10, 2007

So, Don Imus is carpeted for inappropriate behavior. I object. He should have been suspended for going down on his knees and apologizing to Al Sharpton, the greatest race hustler of them all. Who the hell are these people trying to kid ? Not so long ago, another hustler who also calls himself a reverend, Jesse Jackson, was screeching “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Western Civ has got to go....” He also called New York “Hymietown” and was given a pass by the third
member of the Imus shake down troika, Abe Foxman.

Let’s face it. Imus is an unpleasant fellow—one could never take him to a gentleman’s club, for example—but he didn’t say anything black radio jockeys don’t say every day about us whites. And it was meant, after all, to be a joke. Ethnic jokes have all but disappeared from the mass media due to censorship. The prevalence in a given society of jokes about a particular ethnic group is not a good indicator of feeling toward that group. In fact, sometimes it’s the contrary. You joke about those you care for and love. At least we used to do. Just look at the Irish, Polish and Italian jokes, or the French jokes about Belgians and the Canadian ones about Newfoundlanders. They are all butts of the jokes about their alleged stupidity. But Americans love Poles and Irish people and Italians, as do the French the Belgians and the Canadians their Newfoundland neighbors. Jokes not permitted in the media are still told today in bars and over the internet. So what’s the big fuss? I’ll tell you. It starts with a capital H for hypocrisy and all it means is that a race hustler like Sharpton saw yet another opportunity to get his name in the papers and on the evening news. Shame on the media for giving it to him.

And speaking of the media, who the hell does this jerk Keith Olbermann think he’s fooling? A New York weekly which specializes in lists and restaurants has profiled him this week as the greatest TV personality since Lassie. Olbermann, however, is as big an opportunist as Sharpton. He rants against George W. Bush. Nightly. Which is fine with me. But he doesn’t dare go after the real architects of the Iraq disaster, the Wolfowitzes, Feiths, Kristols and Perles--the men who set out to deceive the people by fabricating evidence that justified an invasion.  ( To be fair, Olbermann has attacked Rumsfeld). And you know why he hasn’t? Because he will have Foxman after him quicker than you can say Sharpton, and Olbermann knows this. No brave knight in shiny armor he.  Just another opportunist scared of his fellow attack dogs like Christopher Hitchens, who still demands that more American and Iraqi blood be spilled. If you were a true exposer of malfeasance in high places , Olbermann, you’d go after the neocons who knew they had their man when the Texas polymath was “voted" in as president. But you are not, and you won’t because you know on which side your toast is buttered.

I defer to Taki’s knowledge of gentlemen’s clubs; but further down
the social scale ethnic jokes are rarely good natured.  Based on my
experience, when someone says that he is laughing with you, be
assured that he is laughing at you.

Walter, your mother is ... Oh, forget it!

I think Taki will be fine as long as he doesn’t join the NBA.

But look what happened to Dr. Reinhold Aman who tried to do scholarly research on ethnic jokes. Obscurity.

Taki should note that certain groups have long been been fair game for the cultural trend setters in New York, but nobody is supposed to openly discuss or write about it.  The deliberate distortion of remarks made by Don Imus proves it.  White ethnics have long been considered as being open season by Jews and Blacks.

A humiliating example of how the prisoners of Vietnam received was the trreatment by Jackie Mason, rabbi and reputed comedian, on his television show.  When referring to James Stockdale, who was then the running mate of Ross Perot, Mason said he had been in jail for two years during the 1960’s.  Because of deafness he did not hear his jailers tell him of his release and stayed an extra three years.  This comment brought the desired sneering laugh from the New York audience.  That Stockdale had been shot down and then tortured by the North Vietnamese was of no concern to Mason or his kinfolk.  The tenacity and courage which Stockdale displayed in his imprisonment brought him the Medal of Honor, another one of the relics of the once powerful WASP class which brings disdain.  At the onset of the Gulf War in 1991 Jackie Mason flew to Tel Aviv to be with the Israelis to show his solidarity with the Jews of Israel during the missile attacks.  Why Mason did not bother to show his solidarity with American troops who were under fire at the same time should be obvious.  He could have personally counseled the very few Jews in American uniform.

The rules of present day America have been that Mason would be allowed his vicious jokes with no countering blast.  One wonders if a James Stockdale, by himself, in the Warsaw ghetto could have inspired the Jews to a more spirited resistance so they did not die like sheep.  Another joke by Mason was that if he had to choose between a situation comedy on television or a prison camp in Vietnam, he would opt for the prison camp in a second.  This has passed for macho talk among the Jews of New York.  Hearing this childish swill on television for long can derange those who have nothing better to do than watch and learn from the tube.

Perhaps a reversal of long accepted roles could do Jews and the United States a great deal of good.  Jackie Mason has revealed some deep anguish about being a Jew.  Not wishing to be politically correct, Rabbi Mason had noted the biggest domestic problem in America was black violence.  Blacks would not fight Italians in Bensonhurst in Brooklyn because Italians hit back.  This was said before the New York Times led a lynch mob on Italians defending their Bensonhurt neighborhood.  Yet they would attack Jews because Jews were cowards.  No Jew would attack blacks because he would be called a racist.  Mr. Abe Foxman, head of the Anti-Defamation League, thought that statement was “shameful”.  Mr. Mason retaliated by calling his establishment Jewish detractors “sick bastards”.  Mr. Mason noted his mocking of Chinese could be thought worse, but no condemnation was demanded by the ADL because no Jew was afraid of being killed by a Chinese.  But because Jews were basically cowards who fear blacks will kill them, they did not criticize even if they were being killed in the streets.

Former black Mayor Dinkins in a radio interview said that illegal aliens were a federal problem and that they were welcome in New York City where they were entitled to benefits paid by the federal taxpayer.  The hinterlands did not concern him.  Mayor Dinkins did not confine himself to the print media.  He had lent his august presence to Reverend Jesse Jackson’s television program during which the omniscient Mr. Jackson had claimed that during World War II General George Patton had placed black troops on the front line so they could be killed.  Mr. Dinkins said nothing to contradict Reverend Jackson.  Awkward facts that few blacks died in combat in Europe during World War II have never deterred Mr. Jackson.  The United States lost 292,000 men (and very, very few women) in combat.  If blacks then 10% of the population had died in proportion to their numbers, some 29,000 would have died, or some 40 times the 700 who died.

What puzzled many New Yorkers was what parade Dinkins would dignify by his appearance.  The national president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians noted the refusal by the mayor to march in the St. Patrick’s Day parade because Irish gays had been excluded.  Some may have thought the mayor was anti-Catholic, but this gentleman was willing to give Mayor Dinkins a chance to claim a matter of conscience.  Some two months later in the Salute to Israel parade where gay marchers were again banned, the mayor had changed his mind and marched. There was no loud bombast from the mayor or attempt to deny Jews a permit.

These dishonest and cowardly acts have never been refuted publicly by a national media more concerned with nonsense such as the ruckus on the Imus show.  The news media continues to be brazenly and openly deceitful.

Surely you meant “polymath” ironically.  Or else maybe you were thinking “psychopath” and mistyped.

Said with eloquence and brio, Mr. Earley.  As I once said to someone who called me an anti-Semite:  “I’m not easily flattered, old boy.” I’m surprised the Great Redactor has not yet effaced your commentary.

Times have changed, and the old freedom to publish “friendly” slurs has run into a wall. I recall that a Principal of a High School in northern California was terminated from employment for leaving a note on his secretary’s desk that he chose salami over “chick-in-egg” by choosing to attend a meeting that evening of the local PTA over a Filipino committee meeting. Apparently “chick-in-egg” is a taste treat from the Phillipine Islands, and mere mention of this choice was enough to cost the principal his job.

This makes it pretty rough for persons less secure in wealth, age, status, and career to embrace the good ol’ boys attitude expressed above by our esteemed columnist. The only other plan to embrace is one that rejects slurs and defamation against the members of all demographic groups, and without a level playing field that is the option we must choose.
