Many if not most television shows from the beginning in the 50’s to today are nothing more than Jews making fun of or trashing non-jews. Every thing from All in the Family to The Simpsons, and from Green Acres to My Name is Earl is nothing more than fitting an image of non-Jewish white people (espcially Protestants) into a neat box where they are to be ridiculed and reviled. Non-WASP characters in all of these shows range from sympathetic to pillars for the WASP to look up to. It doesn’t matter what station the WASPs in these show fall into, rich and poor alike are are equally ridiculed.

Well… I mean… nobody outside of New York knows or cares about the intricacies of the real estate market and social castes there. Williamsburg? Lofts? ...Schmofts. This show’s appeal is simple: assimilative eye candy. “Gossip Girl,” like all entertainment media, is an invention of a mostly Jewish purview intended to sell a fantasy - in this case, the ...fantasy of being WASP. That’s what our increasingly diversified population wants more than anything else. Look at the sales floor of any Abercrombie and Fitch outlet. WASPs among the clientele? Find one! Asian, hispanic, black or Sri Lankan… but very, very few WASPs. Nevertheless, it’s the image of WASPdom that’s so attractive. It’s the heft. It’s the cachet of the ethnic group most identified with the overwhelming - and relatively sudden - success of this country. American Jews plumb this almost-universal WASP yearning so well because they themselves have been afflicted with it for so long. Show me anything tradionally Judaic in something called “The Dalton School”.

TV has gotten so bad that I considered calling the cable company to complain that even though I was stealing their product I was still completely unsatisfied.

If you can stomach pursuing this trope into film history, I strongly recommend Otto Preminger’s “The Cardinal” (1963) and the counterculture exploitation film “Joe” (1970) as sterling examples.  The latter is so hamfisted in its portrayal of the working class that it is almost unbelievable to me that anyone ever took it seriously.

Also, if Joe Sixpack knew that the richest and most powerful of the “rich and powerful” (read: $700 billion “bailout” recipients) were “Christ-hating” Jews, there would be Hell on Earth - directed towards the Jews themselves.

So Jews go on making TV shows and movies, pretending like the only difference between now and “then” (pick your favorite “golden era") is that today we’re all enlightened multiracialists and multiculturalists, which I suppose, collectively, “we” are.

I’m not accusing the Jews, collectively, of anything particularly wrong (sinful, yes), but I am admonishing “the gentiles” for getting caught up in their fantasy land (both on TV and in real life).  Hard work puts food on the table, not refinancing the mortgage on the house that, technically, the bank, not you, own.

Isn’t Ralph Lauren Jewish?  And hasn’t he been making big buck$ from recycling fashions found in Brooks Bros. catalogues from before Hitler’s Folly?  It’s the Gatsby Look, folks, and it sells like mad.

It’s a show that portrays a WASP fantasy, which is appealing to a lot of Americans, especially younfer Americans.  Witness the popularity of clothing brands such as A&F;, Lacoste, and Hollister. I have a good friend whose family has apparently been in and around New York City for centuries- they came over before the Revolution, and intermarried with some of the early Dutch settler families.

The one US sitcom that ever really offended me was Seinfeld, where WASP women were treated as disposable bags of meat.

Most US sitcoms take the more passive-aggressive approach of making the WASP male characters impotent, like Chandler in ‘Friends’ or, more overtly, the Kyle MacLachlan character in Sex and the City (so his WASP wife leaves him for the virile Jewish lawyer).

I also get the impression, contrary to some posters above, that up until the ‘60s US sitcoms & drama generally showed a positive portrayal of WASPs and the WASP nuclear family, especially heartland WASPs (Leave it to Beaver, Mayberry PD etc).

Nowadays we have stuff like ‘Law & Order’, where the Great WASP Beast is slain every week, over and over again, in a manner renminiscent of pagan ritual. Here it’s the always rich, always ‘old money’ white perpetrator, imprisoned by the heroic crusading non-WASP prosecutors (ironically Sam Neill is the very model of a Scots-WASP, playing an Irish-American ADA).

There’s something quasi-religious about it.  I think it’s fascinating that Jewish New York writers seem to feel the need to do this, to eternally re-enact their grandfathers’ victories over the WASP establishment on TV, always dressed up in modern clothing. 

I suppose there’s a parrallel with the popularity of Cowboy & Indian films, up until the ‘50s, ever re-enacting America’ victory over a long-dead enemy.  In Britain for a long time we did the same with World War 2.  The obvious difference though is that the primary market for these ritualised TV tales of Victory-over-the-WASP… is WASPs.

Thanks James - Neill is an Irish name, and Sam Waterson (a Scots name) is a first-generation pure-Scots immigrant, so I should have known better.  My point was just that, as an Ulster Scot myself, to me Sam Waterson’s physiology is that of a classic Scotsman and he looks and acts nothing like any Irish Catholic New Yorker I’ve ever seen.  That he’s ‘preppy’ doesn’t undermine my point.

I tried to watch the show for the eye candy, but couldn’t tolerate it after a couple of minutes. Hollywood knows what sells around the world, and it isn’t multiculti stuff but Baywatch aesthetics.

Is the author really saying that if someone with a last name like Rockefeller, Forbes, Gates, Rothshild applies to some school, that in itself won’t be enough? Or that WASPs don’t name-drop? Please, WASPs even created a new name for this corruption: “networking.”

I actually appreciate seeing wealthy WASPs portrayed at all on TV. For a while it seemed that they would be extinct on TV first before going exctinct in reality and would occupy exclusively that graveyard of TV productions that is reality TV. Even when it’s often in the roles of the villains. Since the days when Hollywood started portraying corporations or government or a conspiracy of both as the evil guys, it has always been rich old male WASPs as the villains. Notice Prison Break’s “the company”, Fringe’s “the pattern/maximum dynamics” etc. The beauty of it all is that how Hollywood portrays people says so much more about the people creating this stuff than about those they are trying to portray.

As the family of one of those ‘faded elite’ I would like to add a few thoughts:
a. there is little or no solidarity or identity among WASPs anymore - the networks of old families and communication simply do not exist.
b. Jews know FULL WELL they are the dominate elite now, and they also had a sense they were wresting power from WASPs and guilt ridden wasps didn’t seem to be a aware of it. You can often see manifestations of when Jews say the wasps ‘gave up without firing a shot’ - well we didn’t know we were in a war -we thought the jews were really upset about discrimination - it turns out they were upset about Jewish discrimination - they had and have no problem discriminating against us.

Question:
the new elite and new system still has to ‘pretend’ the old establishment exists. Why? And once people find out who really runs the prep schools, Ivy Leagues and most elite institutions in NYC if not a large part of the US and just how much their ethics have changed, what are the implications? For example, does our support of Israel take on a whole new light? Or our support of the Oligarchs and hostility towards Russia? What about the hostility towards Christmas ornaments? All the sudden it looks a lot more hatred than fairness.

Being from Northern Ireland myself, the idea that ethnic groups don’t or shouldn’t struggle for dominance of a polity always seemed odd to me.  I guess the English invented the idea - when they were so dominant it seemed they could never be challenged.

They seem nervous about it though.  The one US show I see regularly is The Daily Show, so by now I’ve seen dozens of hours of Jon Stewart sitting talking behind that desk, interviewing Bill Kristol, and so on.  One can’t help but notice a lot about what Stewart seems to think of himself, his interviewees, his place in the world, and so on.  I don’t know exactly how typical he is of the New York Jewish media elite, but from how he’s deferred to I’m guessing he’s not much of an outlier.  The main impression I get is nervousness, a kind of “OK, we’re on top NOW, but if THEY ever realise it, who knows what could happen...”

Where the New York WASP elite seems to have been excessively complacent, the New York Jewish elite seems excessively insecure.  And their fear is not overtly directed towards any rising group that might one day replace them, but towards the remaining WASPs and especially the non-elite WASP heartlands of ‘flyover country’.

I recently did a Google search (a bit lame, but bear with me) for “English American society” and found nothing but garbage - no actual societies.  Then I tried substituting in a variety of other nationalities/ethnicities for “English,” and in each case found actual societies.  This included Scottish, Welsh, Jewish, etc.  There are, of course, historical reasons for this, but it still doesn’t seem right.

One of the things we experience on the West Coast is some resentment in Jewish circles about the fact that only the Anglo-Saxons are allowed an acronym.  Jews are insisting that WEJ is the correct acronym for white Jews when WASP is used, simply for equity.

WEJ as we all know stands for White European Jew and is pronounced “wedge” in the same manner that WASP is pronounced as the name of an insect.

Interesting post!  I’m new here, so I was amused but puzzled by some of the exceptionally silly crypto- (and not-so-crypto-)anti-Semitic comments above.  But I think I figured it out! 

I’m pretty sure the people making these comments are themselves Jews, trying to discredit WASPs by portraying them as anti-Semitic to the other readers, who are also Jews.

The Jews posting the faux-anti-Semitic comments are, of course, doing it out of a psychological need to simultaneously co-opt and destroy the power that they feel has traditionally been in the hands of mainline Protestant blog commenters.

I think the pattern for Jews in relation to the Wasp governing class is ape, rape and escape. First they ape the Wasps; then they financially, politically and culturally rape them; then they escape them by surpassing them.

We now live in a very dynamic period in which different Jews are at each stage of the ape, rape and escape process.

Rich people don’t get into prep schools through family connections or their wealth?  While this might be true for the Ivies and professional schools, the fact that people like Ivanka Trump, Lydia Shaw, and Paris Hilton get modeling jobs and posh jobs at fashion magazines, entertainment companies, etc. flies in the face of that assertion.

Granted, Amanda Hearst is pretty hot, and I don’t mind at all her getting modeling jobs, but a lot of them wouldn’t be able to get those jobs if they didn’t have pedigree or moolah. 

Maybe WASPs with more gravitas, like a certain Mr. Bramwell, resent this aspect of the upper class which he repudiates to pursue the more traditional career of legal “patrician”?

You guys do know that the characters of Gossip Girl were not created by Jewish television writers, but by the Dutch-descended, Connecticut-born, Manhattan private-school-attending, Cecily von Ziegesar and based on an exaggerated version of her own experiences? And here’s another consideration. The reason television shows don’t feature Jewish characters is not a conspiracy, but because the people who make the decisions about what to air would never greenlight a show about a bunch of Jewish kids, because they know full well that the kids who bring the ratings are not going to watch that.
