Who’s Planning Our Next War?

Posted by Patrick J. Buchanan on June 27, 2008

Of the Axis-of-Evil nations named in his State of the Union in 2002, President Bush has often said, “The United States will not permit the world’s most dangerous regimes to threaten us with the world’s most destructive weapons.”

He failed with North Korea. Will he accept failure in Iran, though there is no hard evidence Iran has an active nuclear weapons program?

William Kristol of The Weekly Standard said Sunday a U.S. attack on Iran after the election is more likely should Barack Obama win. Presumably, Bush would trust John McCain to keep Iran nuclear free.

Yet, to start a third war in the Middle East against a nation three times as large as Iraq, and leave it to a new president to fight, would be a daylight hijacking of the congressional war power and a criminally irresponsible act. For Congress alone has the power to authorize war.

Yet Israel is even today pushing Bush into a pre-emptive war with a naked threat to attack Iran itself should Bush refuse the cup.

In April, Israel held a five-day civil defense drill. In June, Israel sent 100 F-15s and F-16s, with refueling tankers and helicopters to pick up downed pilots, toward Greece in a simulated attack, a dress rehearsal for war. The planes flew 1,400 kilometers, the distance to Iran’s uranium enrichment facility at Natanz.

Ehud Olmert came home from a June meeting with Bush to tell Israelis: “We reached agreement on the need to take care of the Iranian threat. ... I left with a lot less question marks regarding the means, the timetable restrictions and American resoluteness. ...

“George Bush understands the severity of the Iranian threat and the need to vanquish it, and intends to act on the matter before the end of his term. ... The Iranian problem requires urgent attention, and I see no reason to delay this just because there will be a new president in the White House seven and a half months from now.”

If Bush is discussing war on Iran with Ehud Olmert, why is he not discussing it with Congress or the nation?

On June 6, Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz threatened, “If Iran continues its nuclear weapons program, we will attack it.” The price of oil shot up 9 percent.

Is Israel bluffing--or planning to attack Iran if America balks?

Previous air strikes on the PLO command in Tunis, on the Osirak reactor in Iraq and on the presumed nuclear reactor site in Syria last September give Israel a high degree of credibility.

Still, attacking Iran would be no piece of cake.

Israel lacks the stealth and cruise-missile capacity to degrade Iran’s air defenses systematically and no longer has the element of surprise. Israeli planes and pilots would likely be lost.

Israel also lacks the ability to stay over the target or conduct follow-up strikes. The U.S. Air Force bombed Iraq for five weeks with hundreds of daily runs in 1991 before Gen. Schwarzkopf moved.

Moreover, if Iran has achieved the capacity to enrich uranium, she has surely moved centrifuges to parts of the country that Israel cannot reach--and can probably replicate anything lost.

Israel would also have to over-fly Turkey, or Syria and U.S.-occupied Iraq, or Saudi Arabia to reach Natanz. Turks, Syrians and Saudis would deny Israel permission and might resist. For the U.S. military to let Israel over-fly Iraq would make us an accomplice. How would that sit with the Europeans who are supporting our sanctions on Iran and want the nuclear issue settled diplomatically?

And who can predict with certitude how Iran would respond?

Would Iran attack Israel with rockets, inviting retaliation with Jericho and cruise missiles from Israeli submarines? Would she close the Gulf with suicide-boat attacks on tankers and U.S. warships?

With oil at $135 a barrel, Israeli air strikes on Iran would seem to ensure a 2,000-point drop in the Dow and a world recession.

What would Hamas, Hezbollah and Syria do? All three are now in indirect negotiations with Israel. U.S. forces in Afghanistan and Iraq could be made by Iran to pay a high price in blood that could force the United States to initiate its own air war in retaliation, and to finish a war Israel had begun. But a U.S. war on Iran is not a decision Bush can outsource to Ehud Olmert.

Tuesday, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Adm. Michael Mullins left for Israel. CBS News cited U.S. officials as conceding the trip comes “just as the Israelis are mounting a full court press to get the Bush administration to strike Iran’s nuclear complex.”

Vice President Cheney is said to favor U.S. strikes. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Mullins are said to be opposed.

Moving through Congress, powered by the Israeli lobby, is House Resolution 362, which demands that President Bush impose a U.S. blockade of Iran, an act of war.

Is it not time the American people were consulted on the next war that is being planned for us?

Comments

Well, we know who is pushing for it.

An unlike the Iraq war, where you could claim with a straight face that others were (naively) pushing for it as well, this push to war is virtually 100% driven by The Lobby.

This is an understatement. Getting involved with these lunatics was one of the worst foreign policy mistakes in US history.

“The Iranian problem requires urgent attention, and I see no reason to delay this just because there will be a new president in the White House seven and a half months from now.”

Oh, of course: The only thing that really matters is what Ehud thinks is important. If he sees no reason for delay - dammit - we must act immediately.

This country has been Israel’s big, slobbery labrador retriever so long they don’t even try to hide their dismissive arrogance toward us. Olmert expects the U.S. and all it’s military might to jump when de Knesset say “jump.”

Someday, hopefully, our endless willingness to heel, roll over and fetch will finally play dead.

A new record, $142 a barrel I think overnight. Republican policies are working.

‘Let us rid ourselves of the fiction that low oil prices are somehow good for the United States.’ - Congressman Dick Cheney 1986

Cheney to fired Sec of the Treasury Paul O’Neill “You know, Paul, Reagan proved deficits don’t matter,” “We won the midterms (congressional elections). This is our due.”

Still waiting on Pelosi’s AIPAC bill to blockade Iran to get through Congress. The Democratic Congress will have given the green light to a war with Iran.

The Democratic and Republican wings of the Warfare Welfare party march on. At Least the Supreme Court agrees we should arm ourselves for the coming revolution.

Although I think Pat overrates Iran’s ability to shoot down an Israeli pilot or two, he is correct that an Israeli bombing raid would devastate the American economy.  An American bombing raid would do the same.  Of course, the hubristic George W. Bush might want to bomb in December, especially if Obama is slated to take his office.

I listened to Kristol discuss the issue on Monday morning as CSPAN-Radio in Washington replays the political talk from the Sunday shows(Pat, you should be at Mass on Sundays!).  It was eerie listening to little Bill discuss the issue as he was thinking it through the lens of being an Israeli citizen rather than an American citizen.  Is Kristol a dual citizen or what?

“If Bush is discussing war on Iran with Ehud Olmert, why is he not discussing it with Congress or the nation?”

Because we no longer live in a democracy, and Washington is now Zionist Occupied Territory. Why is that so hard for some people to understand? Has political correctness and Christian Zionism dumbed Americans down that far? A brilliant plan really; the former lobotomized the left, the latter lobotomized the right, and the Israelis and their domestic agents are laughing all the way to the bank.

“At least the Supreme Court agrees we should arm ourselves for the coming revolution.”

I hope it never actually comes to that, but the Heller decision yesterday was the first piece of unambiguously good news I’ve heard in a long time.  I hope that bitter ex-Republicans like me will take careful note of that before pulling the lever for Obama.  There may be little to like about McCain, but I don’t see how there can be any doubt that any Supreme Court justices he might name will be far more likely to uphold the narrow 5-4 Heller majority in future cases than those Obama would nominate.

An attack on Iran would be catastrophic to the economy and any semblance of credibility the Bush regime has. I can’t believe even W would be that stupid. He would go down in history as the worst President ever, bar none.

There is another possibility that Pat just cannot accept; pressure might be needed. Libya disarmed after we invaded Iraq. Largely due to diplomatic pressure, but with the threat of Japan rearming, North Korea has now stopped its weapons program.

So it seems to me that by taking away any possibility of preemptive attack, Buchanan is making war more likely, as a nuclear Iran is not acceptable to Israel or the US.

Or are we supposed to automatically side with those who neocons and/or Israel oppose, until such time as they graduate from killing American soldiers and uke an American city?

“So it seems to me that by taking away any possibility of preemptive attack, Buchanan is making war more likely, as a nuclear Iran is not acceptable to Israel or the US.” “So it seems to me that by taking away any possibility of preemptive attack, Buchanan is making war more likely, as a nuclear Iran is not acceptable to Israel or the US.” What makes Israel or the US think the Iranians would be foolish enough to use a nuclear weapon, even if Iran had them.  What proof is there that Iran is making them?  Let’s see all the evidence front and center, now.  The Iranians have the right to nuclear power under the Non-Proliferation treaty.  We should not just assume the Persians have short memories and would be willing to “live and let live”.  If Israel or the US attacks them now for what they don’t have, what guarantee is there they won’t retaliate 18 months or 18 years later in a place and manner of their choosing?  It’s so sad we in the US have warmongers and idiots as our elected “leaders” ready and willing to put us all at risk so these “leaders” can show how much they’re willing to lick Israel’s boots.

I write this, as an American based in the UAE.  This past February, there was a lot of talk of an imminent war with Iran.  I think it all boiled down to the Iranian Oil Bourse in Kish and their dumping the $ in favor of the Euro.  After that, we had to deal with undersea comm cables getting snapped by fishing trawlers or being spliced for eavesdropping.

Here we are four months down the road talking about war before this year end.

IMHO, this is what I’d call ‘brilliant psyops’!

Love TakiMag
and Pat.

On the economy,
we are in trouble, no matter what happens, very dire straits economically,
the future is ugly and it will go global.

An attack on Iran would only speed up the unavoidable.

This is the key point, most people do not know how bad it is, M3+
$1 Trillion per year equals disaster.

An attack on Iran will serve as a cover for the
planned economic collapse.

All planned folks, you do not run M3 like that without consequences that are known. For years the “powers” have been running cover and prolonging the
ponzi scheme.

Worse than the
‘70’s and worse than The Great Depression is coming.

Stock up on preps, gold, silver, food, ammo, and other resources.

Regards

All this reveals that the Zuinist lobby and groups like AIPAC are not interested in the USA but are really agents of a foreign power.
During the cold war such people who worked for the Russians were jailed and in some cases executed.
When will we see the leaders of the Zionists lobby and all those of that ilk in custody??? Hope fully soon..before they destroy us all.

So many comments critical to [unmentionable entity]. Now it is only a matter of time when all comments will be erased, like has happened before on these pages.
Sic transit gloria mundi.

Some have speculated here and elsewhere that global events are staged and planned in advance. I would never have believed that this could be true except for the lack of protest from the masses in the so-called free countries. In the US very few of its citizens wants an attack on Iran yet the government seems determined to bring it about for no other reason than because an unnamed entity wishes it to happen. And again I ask, WHERE ARE THE PROTESTS?

“WHERE ARE THE PROTESTS?”

All over the internet, and that’s about it.

Most others are pursuing the liberal, “if it feels good, do it” ethos, or cowardly holding their tongues for fear of being politically incorrect. (Political incorrectness these days includes opposition to warmongering.)

It looks like the anti-Christian proposition/creedal nation formulation built upon materialism and mass third world immigration formulated by the Neocons has successfully demoralized the population into nihilism and feeble compliance a lot sooner than anyone thought possible.

Looks like McCain is going to take his misguided shot at personal freedom
(a quelling of his personal pain) by mindlessly revenging himself upon the
rest of us and the world. That is called in the therapeutic world:
‘acting-out’. It’s why you try not to discuss religion or politics in a bar
while drinking and attempting to ‘chill.’ Both of those areas, religion and
politics (regardless of their merits or demerits themselves within their own
context) tend to attract those predisposed to some serious ‘acting out.’ Sort
of like George W. Bush for example to get elected talking about an American
foreign policy that prudently minded its own business. Then as one astute
observer pointed out instead of maturely sticking to his alleged convictions
and recognizing the foundation for such maturity is that the world to quote
this expert: “has it’s own pre-existent ‘pernicious’ design”; which although I agree,
I would have chosen ‘perspicacious’ as the adjective to emphasize. … W. Bush,
instead, chose to ‘act out’ by belieivng himself suddenly to be the recipient
of ‘divine guidance.’ Personally I like to stick with ‘perspicacious’, and admit
I’ve *never been otherwise contacted ‘directly’ (fortunately.) But with McCain
in the acting-’out’ department, what we may see rather than a bogus re-incarnation
of Jesus, is something more akin to Attila the Hun. I noticed, have you,
(although I haven’t seen the film) HOLLYWOOD has a new movie out singing Attila’s
praises (apparently the old’fellow was ‘misunderstood’) called: The Mongol.
… Perhaps they ought to have called it: The Ashkenazi … I hear they’re some of
his relatives (converts), not surprisingly, these days. He probably was also a Leftist.

So who’s planning (already) America’s next war? Could it be:
Attila the Ashkenazim? Not all of them, you know the usual suspects these days.

No, I’m not predjudiced. Our lovely human family as so many such usual suspects.

Peace, out - dogs.

With George Soros in the wings, whose own acting-out (there) takes the form of ‘believing’ he actually can think well. And due to an acquisitive nature of his own in the accumulation of capital, that he ‘thinks’ so well he really ought to be doing it for the rest of us.

All three of these manifestations or types in terms of how they choose to address their largely unaddressed personal pain in their acting out; they are the types if on the bar stool next to you, the short-hairs on the back of you neck tend to rise as you subsequently scope out another seat for yourself somewhere if possible in the same establishment or leave. Most of us have left.

Need for pressure?  There is nothing, absolutely nothing good that came from that massive criminal lie.  I assure you, as someone who recently returned from Iraq, that I speak from first hand experience.

All the good that comes from evil is an illusion.  The Iraq Attaq is no different.  Thousands of lives lost, tens of thousands more crippled and mangled, trillions wasted.  For what? A lie.  Thousands of young warriors killed for a lie.  Shame on you.
