Why I publish this magazine

Posted by Taki Theodoracopulos on February 05, 2007

I want to shake up the stodgy world of so-called ‘conservative’ opinion. For the past ten years at least, the conservative movement has been dominated by a bunch of pudgy, pasty-faced kids in bow-ties and blue blazers who spent their youths playing Risk in gothic dormitories, while sipping port and smoking their father’s stolen cigars. Thanks to the tragedy of September 11—and a compliant and dim-witted president—these kids got the chance to play Risk with real soldiers, with American soldiers. Patriotic men and women are dying over in Iraq for a war that was never in America’s interests. And now these spitball gunners, these chicken hawks, want to attack Iran—which is no threat to the U.S. at all.

One thing I can tell you for sure, there may well be some atheists in foxholes—but you’ll never find a neocon. They prefer to send blue-collar kids out to die on their behalf, so they get to feel macho—and make up for all the times they got wedgies in prep school. It shall be our considered task to take on the chicken-hawks of this world, and give them wedgies again.”

We want to reflect a traditional conservatism that prefers peace with honor to proxy wars, Western civilization to multicultural barbarism, Christendom to the European Union, and Russell Kirk to Leon Trotsky. This will undoubtedly infuriate many in the mainstream ‘conservative’ movement, who have transferred their loyalties elsewhere. It’s time to raise their blood pressure a few points—and help them burn off some of those five-course meals they’ve been eating down on K Street.

Conservative | Iraq war

Comments

As a blue collar kid who’s getting ready for a third tour in Iraq, I’m encouraged to see another voice for traditional conservatism on the web.  We need more alternatives to NR and their ‘remake the world in our image’ message.  Go Paleos!

Hello there Mr Theodorakopulos,

I agree broadly with your sentiments (although your historical support of the VietNam war-crime shows that you vastly over-rated the threat of Socialism), but I feel compelled to take issue with the nonsense about Iran being no threat to the US.

Not that it’s not true, it’s just that it’s not RELEVANT. Germany was no threat to England in either 1914 or 1939 (in fact old Adolf said clearly that Blighty was NECESSARY - he admired them.)

Les Hommes Politiques - those vile tapeworm-in-human-form who sustain themselves by draining the economy of as much of its product as possible - are the folks who start wars, and it’s always and forever, only for the reason of benefiting a narrow clique of courtesans who spend their lives on their knees in front of politicians. They reap far greater benefits than most whores, but they are operating the same way. I guess the difference is that it is always the mere mortals in the economy that actually get screwed…

I doubt that there has been a war of genuine national security since the Pelepponesian.

I’ve been an admirer of your work since the mid-90’s in the Spectator days (before Boris the Turk took over as editor, and back when that dunce Steyn knew his place).

Je vous souhaites un bonne journée…

So is there ever going to be “American Conservative” cruise with Pat B, Steve S. and all the gang?

Marvelous work, Taki. Your web site is just what is needed to counter the nefarious doings of JPod the Lesser, the Frum Bum, and the rest of the Jacobins.

Drinks all ‘round (for us!)
Wedgies all ‘round (for them!)

Finally, a no-nonsense bullshitter
who’s on MY side!

I’m behind you all the way, Taki.

I’ll carry your ice any day!

Taki,

Looking forward to delving into what Steve
Sailer has described as an “elegant new web
magazine.”

Elegance aside, I hope to personally see you
on March 20th in Washington, DC at the
commemoration for Sam Francis. I will try
to greet you before both of us get inebriated
(probably no later than 2:30 PM!).

Dan

Dear Taki, this is very elegant indeed! We have been waiting for this! My husband and I have long enjoyed your articles in the American Conservative. We will be daily visitors. EMV

No!No!No!  I know I’m going to have to read every word of every article as this is one of the few places where sensibility is allowed.  But I also have to work and sleep.

And even in this short bit, I realize that Conservatism’s goal is peace.  With honor, so as to not give in on principle, but often it is better to forgive wrongs, or use diplomacy, or even very wisely pick the battles we do fight.

Now if such sense could only be found in the Capitol.

It really made my day to find out about this site, especially since Chronicles seems to be shut down for awhile and has been having problems for many months.  I’ll be a daily visitor and occasional commentator.  Thank you for this gift, Taki.

Ah, the “eager neophytes--in reality, disproportionately young men and women who worked in low-level positions within the Bush Administration, the Washington right-wing think-tank orbit, the Congressional Republican Party or the national Republican Party. A few, notably the CPA’s senior adviser, Dan Senor (now a contributor to Fox News), cut their institutional teeth in AIPAC, the powerful American-Israeli Political Action Committee. It was commonplace to talk to young people in the Green Zone--the heavily fortified palace complex where the CPA was headquartered and from which most CPA employees rarely ventured except under heavy military escort--and find them fully up to speed on the Bush Administration’s revolutionary project (a favorite word of theirs) for democratizing the Middle East but with only the haziest knowledge of Iraq, let alone of Arab, Persian or Islamic history. A favorite joke among these kids--and they were kids--at the time was, “anyone can go to Baghdad. Real men want to go to Tehran.” Thus did neoconservative dreams, hatched within the Beltway, flourish for a time along the Tigris.”
