Founded by Pat Buchanan, Washington, DC based group The American Cause held a conference at the National Press Club over the weekend called “Immigration and the Future of the Republican Party.” Speakers included Pat’s sister and American Cause president, Bay Buchanan; former Forbes magazine editor and current VDare.com editor Peter Brimelow; Fox News contributor and American Conservative contributing editor James Pinkerton and Robert Taft Club President and Taki’s Magazine contributor Marcus Epstein. Each of these conservative figures argued that continuing mass Hispanic immigration into the United States could spell disaster for the Republican Party, citing recent voting trends and other statistics. The conference addressed a perfectly reasonable subject discussed by perfectly reasonable people.
But not according to the New York Times whose editorial on the conference read as follows: “The relentlessly harsh Republican campaign against immigrants has always hidden a streak of racialist extremism. Now after several high-water years, the Republican tide has gone out, leaving exposed the nativism of fringe right-wingers clinging to what they hope will be a wedge issue.”
When the New York Times editorialized against a conference sponsored by The American Cause on the impact of Hispanics on the GOP, the Southern Avenger couldn’t help but notice the double standard and blatant racial hypocrisy.
