Anyone But Clinton!
The most gruesome sight imaginable was Rudy Giuliani taking the oath of the highest office in the land sometime early next year. In fact, I had nightmares about it. Giuliani the gravedigger standing on the steps of the Capitol and swearing to uphold the Constitution. Giuliani is the inspector Javert personified, cruel, vindictive and unforgiving. But worse are the bums he would have swept into power with him: the Podhoretzes, Daniel Pipes, Michael Rubin, Martin Kramer, and so on. All neo-cons, all Israel Firsters, all committed to war until Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the Palestinian Authority come under Israeli orders. And let us not forget Iran. If those crum bums got into the White House, the mushroom clouds would be over Iran in a jiffy.
Americans, however, had different ideas. Once upon a time Americans were considered compassionate, friendly, and generous. They still are, as far as I am concerned, but I’m among the few who know it. The rest of the world hates Uncle Sam and puts him on a par with Hitler and Stalin for throwing his weight around. Poor George W. never had a chance, did he? With people like Kristol and Frum, Feith and Wolfowitz, it would have needed the brains of George W— as in Washington—to remain an effective leader. Now that the neo-cons wrecked the 43rd presidency, they were eager to get into the act early with Giuliani, a man who should now try horror films and forget public relations. He’d be very good at playing evil undertakers who buries innocent young people alive.
Which brings me to ABC, Anyone But Clinton, where the Democrats are concerned. I never thought I’d see the day where I would agree with anything Ted Kennedy had to say, but he hit the nail on the head when he finally admitted that the Clintons—because we will have a dual presidency if that woman gets elected—are not only demonizers of their opponents—any opponent, even if our Lord Jesus came down and decided to run—but also have a propensity to lie even when the truth serves them better. Taking the low road is the only road the Clintons know. They defame and distort and vilify anyone who stands in their way and call it politics. Al Capone would be proud of them for getting it done without wasting bullets or risking jail time.
But Hillary will, I fear, get the nomination. We may have been saved from Giuliani, but we still might see Sid the scumbag Blumenthal back in the White House whispering in the Clinton ears and destroying opponents. God help America.

One down and more to go. McCain isn’t exactly a prize when it comes to dealing with the Islamic world. Oh well, Hillary may yet be unhorsed.

Oops, I forgot! Ralph Nader is organizing a committee or something to determine whether it’s auspicious for him to run again. Now we dynamic progressive spirits have something to live for.

Taki can’t you get Pat Buchanan to give it one more try for the Constitution Party if Dr. Paul doesn’t run.How about a Paul Buchanan ticket?

The Clintons know which way the political winds blow (to paraphrase Bob Dylan, the poet of their generation). Today, Bill’s chickenhawk pedigree, far from being a hindrance in his obsessive quest to be America’s first First Hubby, might actually play well in imperial Washington, where the statement “send poor kids to die” is not a matter of mere expediency, but one, rather, of core philosophy. Chickenhawks are in, and who’s to say that Bill doesn’t put his feet up on the desk, lean back and visualize his own bust up there between those of – let’s just say – Newt Gingrich and Richard Perle at the Neocon Hall of Fame. Hey, if it gets the old lady elected…

We in Europe don’t say this often enough. The American man in the street is as good a man as anywhere, and far better than most. The corrupted Americans are very few in number, but sadly they’re a majority in Washington and the media.
Jack - it’s a genuine human tragedy the zeitgeist wasn’t ready for PJB a few years ago, and even if he wouldn’t quite have made it this time either (?), I suspect a “1996 Pat Buchanan” figure is just what America will KNOW it needs in 2012.

Look, I yield to no one in my disgust of the Clintons. But look (if you have the stomach) at Manchurian Candidate McCain who’s modus operandi essentially is:
Invade the World.
Invite the World.
In Hock to the World.
Look up McCain’s background in the Wiki. It’s absolutely appalling. A plague on both their houses.
In the late Edward Teller’s office was a sign that God takes care of young children, drunks, and the United States. The Almighty now has His work cut out for Himself with what’s on the table!

In a race between Hillary and McCain, I hold to the theory that it is better to vote for a dead president who was good, than to vote for a bad one who is very much alive. Obama, Heaven forbid, may even be worse, as he lends himself to all sorts of “fill-in-the-blank” aspirations from libs. I second the writer who suggested that Buchanan make another run, although I suppose it’s too late now.

Well, the first part of my message was cut off. The first paragraph read: In the case of a choice between Hillary and McCain, I would do like I did in 2004, write in Jefferson Davis.

When the day of reckoning comes and the United States finds itself bankrupt from all of the wars, idealistic entitlement packages it doles out, and foriegn aid it also doles out, both groups on each side of the political aisle will find themselves discredited and then possibly real change will come. Then possibly we will have a government that will pay attention to the real problems tha the country faces and not kowtow to lobbyists and special interest groups that have dragged us into this mess.

Look at the positive: Clinton only had an affair with an intern and lied blatantly to cover it—as he did about his financial affairs. Compared to what Bush II had done, Clinton’s transgressions make his presidency look like a golden era. Is there any way to make sure Bill would be in charge of foreign policy in the Clintons’ presidency?
Isn’t McCain the guy who sang the “Bomb bomb bomb. Bomb Iran” ditty? Couldn’t this video be used in the campaign? It may be quite effective in light of the rapidly deteriorating situation in Afghanistan. Europeans know too much about the history of militarism to be fooled into fighting that war. This means the next US president will be faced with the choice of either pulling out of Iraq and sending those troops to Afghanistan, or establishing the draft to get enough cannon-fodder to take on the Taliban in Afghanistan. Any fighting with Iran would be on the top of these two. When voters realize this, there will ensue behavior-changing thinking. As those who are old enough to remember the late 60s can recall, the possibility of getting drafted focuses mind of the individual and his relatives wonderfully. (I still remember the question: ‘ What’s the use of getting an advanced degree from Berkeley, and then being sent to Vietnam to be shot by an illiterate peasant?)

*I still remember the question: ‘ What’s the use of getting an advanced degree from Berkeley, and then being sent to Vietnam to be shot by an illiterate peasant?) “* I take your point as illustrating a question one might have asked. But did this sort of thing, in fact, happen? It is my impression that the few people with that kind of educational background who saw the sort of combat duty that brought them itno contact with “illiterate peasants” volunteered for it.

Tom K,
I was in Berkeley in the late 60s, and the question “What’s the use of getting an advanced degree, and then being sent to Vietnam to be shot by an illiterate pesant?” was asked numerous times and by many people. Selection for draft operated on a lottery based on birth-date, and in many districts the proportion actually called-up was high. Berkeley again selected its students on the basis of merit. As a result, many students were highly intelligent but from low social backgrounds, so they did not have the connections to get safe, cushy postings, but actually ended up serving in Nam.
On the basis of my first-hand observations, the very real and very personal risk was the motivation that got most students to participate in the riots. It looks very probable that the same process will begin to operate again, when the mid-East conflict escalates.

Great article Taki,
Actually, I have a particular affection for Clintons since they bombed my country of origin, in order to establish two Muslim states in the Balkans(apparently, Hillary participated in the decisions, hence her boasting on her ‘experience’).
Bill and Hill (Hill-Billies?), on advice of their Jewish collaborators (Albright, Halbrook,Zimmerman, Berger, Abramowits, Goldhagen etc.. ets)decided to please those corrupt Arab monarchs, who wouldn’t move their little obese fingers to aliviate the suffering of the Palestinian People, by creating two more corrupt Muslim states (Bosnia and Kosovo). They did it by that, by now classical way American Government spreads the democracy- shock and awe.
They( agent Zimmerman) torpedoed a signed agreement in Lisboa, between the Serbs and the Bosnian Muslims to end their civil war, henceforth prolonging it another two years.Bosnian Muslims were lured into the trap by the promised arrival of some five thousands Al Queda fighters whose remnants are still around.
Clintons have arranged the transfer in collusion with then Iranian PM Khatami (this ‘reformer’ thought he had thus, struck a permanent friendship with Americans and has insisted since on further cooperation). These were the pre-evil axis days.
In any case, as great Joe Sobran observed, if we get back in the White House, the Sexual Predator, we may also get back back some stolen furniture.
As Francisco Franco used to repeat-
‘No hay mal que por bien no venga’

Speaking of Pat, I saw him on CSPAN/Sirius’s POTUS08 and he was given the opportunity to say who he favors and he did mention Ron Paul, although couched in typical “I disagree with some of his policies” tepid support. This was after Pat explained that he (Buchanan) had left the Republican Party in 2000 and that they did not reward disloyalty. He also said that it looks like the surge is working and we couldn’t just pull out of Iraq. He’s carrying Bush’s water after having opposed all of Bush’s policies, when he just admitted that they never forget or forgive.
What is Pat up to? The only thing that I can think is that he loves his present position as “cranky conservative elder” media guy and wants to maintain his credibility if Paul goes down in flames. I don’t want to believe that because the Paul candidacy IS the Buchanan revolution. I hope he’s just keeping his powder dry, but c’mon eileen! I maxed my donations to the Buchanan campaign when he won NH and then the Republican establishment locked arms against him. I remember quite clearly. Why doesn’t he?
Pat - march toward the sound of the guns!

Interesting that the destruction of the two
party system occurs around the same time as
the economic recession/depression. I always
hope for the worst, of course.
Why weren’t the people proactive during the
depression and secede during the 20’s and 30’s.
Oh, well.

Im not so sure that Bush Jr presidency wasnt a dual presidency given the same neo-con actors in both Bush admins.
I agree that its a good thing GhoulieAnnie and the neo-cons are out of the picture.
But McCain is Bush on steroids and this angry little man is quiet worrisome and if someone was gonna drop some nukes he may be the guy. I think Giuliani wants to be his VP.
Hillary is worrysome.
Obama, for all his talk, doesnt impress me.
This is probably the worst presidential lineup ever.

Of course, Paul is the only one who would uphold
the Constitution and, thus, he never had a chance.
Most of the population has been dumbed down by
public education. What do you really expect?
As for Buchanan, he never had a chance either for
the additional reason that protestants, evangelicals,
and nascar fans don’t vote for Catholics because
Catholics are “not christians.” I have actually read
“politically sophisticated” columnists express shock
and surprise that “conservative southerners” would
not hop on the Buchanan bandwagon. My only thought
was: “My God, are you people naive or stupid?”
I can’t help but recall Wallace’s insight prior to his
abrupt disengagement: “there ain’t a dimes worth of
difference....”

Say all you insiders,
What is the status of McCain’s health? I had a cousin die of melanoma and that lump on McCain’s left lower face always makes me wonder about his health. And I have heard that veterans exposed to harrowing war time conditions( like McCain’s POW experiences) who develop severe PTSD symptoms require strong drug medication to cope in their daily lives. McCain is rumored to have a reputation for throwing violent temper tantrums.
And his comment that he doesn’t care if the good old USA is in Iraq for a hundred years makes me wonder about his political sense. McCain is older that myself. I remember the Algeria war and how it almost provoked a civil war in France. I don’t think this country would stand for a slow bleed out of men and treasures for Iraq. But maybe I don’t understand the American love for their SUVs and our “happy motoring” way of life. Does living in Washington cause you to suffer from historical amnesia? How many independent votes did McCain lose with the hundred years comment is anybody’s guess.
I don’t understand this near religious devotion some liberals have for the Mistress of the Dark. She and her sleazy husband are disgusting. If you look at some of the left wing, anti war web sites like Alternet and Chris Floyd, you can read about all sorts of corporate scams our first “black” President has been involved with since he departed 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and his questionable antics with cigars. They are so sleazy, I don’t understand the popularity they enjoy. Is it another example of the “dumbing down” of Americans and the “infotainment” that passed for news and analysis from the MSM.
I don’t think I could vote for her or McCain. The genius of the American political system, my foot!

Yes, What is going on with Buchanan? I tune into the McLaughlin Group nearly every week and Pat sounds like a spin doctor for the Bushites and the crowd who involves us in the Mesopotamian quagmire on the show. He is not sounding like one of the founder of The American Conservative, but an insider the beltway talking head. I guess you have to stay inside the consensus to be on TeeVee. And as we all know, TeeVee is the only true reality left in the good old USA.
I enjoy Taki’s Magazine for the same reason I thoroughly looked forward to reading his columns in the English Spectator. The writers can write what they want and they are not suffocated by a thick blanket of political correct “group speak” and concerns about what pressure groups will think and say. Three Cheers for Taki!

Anyone planning to vote for McCain in the Fall, had best take a long look at his running mate, and hope that he has the guts to put the safety clause of the Twenty Fifth Amendment into effect when McCain goes off the deep end. By all appearances, McCain seems to be less than stable and has a violent temper. This is not the sort of temperament to be desired when it is in command of nuclear launch codes. If McCain and Hillary/Bill are the two “choices” this Fall, I will either not vote at all for the office of president, or will write in for Ron Paul. As in the “choice” I was offered in 2004, despite Taki’s arguments here, I cannot see any lesser side in view of what appears to be a perfect balance of pure evil.

What was it with Giuliani’s silly grin? He did it all the time, it was so damn unnerving! Hillary is soiled goods, an American tragedy, destroyed by her husband. I think it’ll be Obama and the first thing he should do if he becomes President is to address the aftermath of the horrible Iraq massacre.
Our country’s unprovoked war on Iraq has left more than 1 million innocent Iraqi civilians dead. As a nation, we should begin to atone for this unspeakable act of brutality by first charging Bush and his collaborators for war crimes and crimes against humanity, after that cabal is removed from power.

Poor George W. never had a chance, did he?
Don’t kid yourself. The pro-Israel lobby are no more than facilitators whose main job was to bring the media and Democrats on board. The war in Iraq was cold-blooded calculation by business Republicans who understand that when you’ve spent the last 40 years or so collaborating in the destruction of your own nation, people and culture the only thing you can do to hold on to your shrinking base is to manufacture a continuing series of crises overseas. Christ, look at this election, even Joe Sixpack has to be beginning to tumble to the absolute domestic hollowness of the Republicans. They can’t even be called the party of fiscal responsibility anymore, much less a party of social conservatism. The beauty of this cynical policy is that it taps into the desperate desire of the party’s white male base to cast off the effects of decades of racist hate propaganda directed at them and feel good about the nation and themselves again - thus the ridiculous, over the top comparisons of the war in Iraq to the “Good War”, WW2. Germans took their minds off the coming arrival of the Red Army by indulging in miracle victory fantasies and throwing themselves into deck-chairs-on- the-Titanic domestic politics and bureaucratic wrangling, the war in Iraq allows the Republican’s base to throw themselves into a foreign conflict and forget their defeat and looming dispossession back home.

quote;
The American man in the street is as good a man as anywhere, and far better than most.
Unfortunately, that man in the street is as easily manipulated as anywhere as well.
I feel - and i will until someone shows a different example - that American society is obsessed with youth and power, and the choice of its leader, reflects that.
Even without the use of scare tactics depicting a real or imagined enemy force, the popular/populist candidate that wins the vote is by default a sporty, square jawed fella’ that likes to shoot his guns.
If this sounds like european underdog resentments, try to feel what Im saying and take it for what its worth.
Prove to me that Gore didnt lose because of his stage presence (or lack of there of). Tell me if Kerry’s clumsiness and Bush’s fishing-shooting-baseball skills did not contribute to the outcome.

I’m sorry but I find it difficult to feel sympathy for any man, American or not, who was shot down while dropping napalm on men. women and children. You folks are seriously in need of a new set of glasses. Have you asked yourselves at all why the firestorm from the far right has occurred since john mccain won super tuesday? Its because he is a decent man, a moderate, and a realist. You did not obviously read the hatred directed at mccain from the diaries of the National Review - neocon after neocon slamming mccain. they know, and you ought to know, of his friendship with Powell and Scowcroft. His recent statement saying that he would keep Gates as SecODef, for instance. All this hate against MCCAIN would not be occuring if the Neocons didn’t suspect that McCain is actually one of George H.W. Bush’s crowd. The enmity with Cheney is absolutely ferocious. McCain’s attacks on Rummy were legendary, so numerous were they. The beltway Neocons split between Giuliani and Romney and became a sort of Anybody-but-McCain movement, which was also added by the gasoline of the Limbaugh and Coulter attacks. The facts are, boys, that McCain is a significant improvement over Dubya and America is more than fortunate that one of the other Repub candidates didn’t win. You make out McCain is a madman - that’s BS!
If he were, a half dozen former secretary of states wouldn’t be supporting him (from early on). McCAin is a return, however secret, to Realism. He is a principled moderate with humor, soul, and honesty. His knowledge of other countries is huge. He has stated often what is obvious - veterans don’t feel like starting unnecessary wars - his own dear two sons are in the services, one stationed in Iraq - the other soon will be. You would have a more powerful website if you took into account the REAL struggle. Principled conservatives are NOT all isolationist RonPaulers Nor Bull-in-a-china-shop Buchananers. Many of them just want the Republican Party to be reclaimed by Bush Senior and Gerald Ford types, and McCain is a one step return to sanity. McCain is like Churchill. So he loves his country - he’s not stupid like Dubya was, who should have never been approved by George Schulz when he was interviewed by him at Bechtel. Its probably all academic because Obama will likely win, but you should be bloody glad mccain won the nomination and not the secret favorite of the fascists - Romney.
