Mailer stated to Buchanan that if Pat had won or was about to win the Republican nomination, he, Mailer, believed Pat would've been killed by his opponents. In 1996, as Pat was doing well in the early primaries, I knew a major Paleo figure advising Pat's campaign who told me he had warned Pat and his aides that the threat to Pat's life was real and had to be taken seriously. The practice of smearing a politician in hyper extreme terms and thus encouraging someone to harm him is not new, especially to the Left and the Neocons.
