Chariots of Fire won the 1981 Oscar at the Academy Awards as the Best Picture of the Year. That movie tells the story of two Oxford students just after World War 1, and their preparation and performance at the Olympic games in running track. One of the students is Jewish and the other a Scottish Protestant. The Jew hires a professional trainer, and devotes a large amount of time to training under professional guidance. By contrast, the Protestant is more or less gifted with running ability and devotes a large amount of his time to preaching the gospel and using his running skill to “glorify God.” Watch the movie and see for yourself which of these characters you like best or if you don’t like either of them.
