I would note that on things like Family issues, and probably many other things, Sharia law is probably much closer to an ideal of Christendom than our current Roe + Tax code. Though on a more serious note, the devil simply switches targets. In 1960, you had cigarettes on TV, and racial oppression down south. In 2000, you had what then would be hard core pornography in any 4 hour period on any channel not targeted at children, and abortion. Ultrasound is making killing the unborn a problems as cancer and emphysema exposed cigarettes. I suspect in 2040 it will be Arabs, muslims, or whatever inconvenient "them" being killed in large numbers by integrated mobs of abortion survivors. I am not sure if the distaff half will be applying the ropes or merely cheering their warrior males on in their newfound crusade. I remember that Hitler wrote Mein Kampf, but no one believed the excesses, whereas I can see both sides of the media agreeing on this. And immigration? Many evangelicals don't bother with any pretense. Oh yes, the holocaust in our midst must only be fought with spiritual weapons like prayer and counseling, which in any other context would make Neville Chamberlain look like a warmonger, while the shouts of fire in the theater of the absurd middle east conflict (see how many metaphors I can mix into this stew) cause them to fear so much the want to go out and torture random muslims until they uncover the next 9/11 plot. Or just kill them all so we can feel safe. Apparently spiritual weapons aren't useful against Muslims, but physical weapons are condemned when used against the Molechites. Their guilt for the terrible sin of omission on Abortion comes out against Muslims and Gays (though the latter is probably due to the evangelical community's acceptance of contraception - basically do anything featured in one of those parades, but only as long as you're married to the person you are doing it to). Catholic Bishops? They also have their Arian periods when they collectively abandon orthodoxy and common sense. But that is why Jesus picked such rabble to be the first Apostles.
