That's a very strange take--they're clearly not even bothering to skim it if that's their interpretation. Benedict isn't concerned in <i>Spe salvi</i> about atheist materialism; instead, he's concerned that <i>Christians</i> have bought into the modern gospel of progress, with the result of making their faith into a purely private matter.
