The hordes of shoppers who mysteriously appear between Thanksgiving and Christmas aren't there for Divali or the Winter Solstice. Any retailer can have its employees wish customers "Merry Christmas" secure in the knowledge that the overwhelming majority of people receiving the greeting will be celebrating Christmas.
