Almost every single county in the south and west are "wet". The Yankee influence was less in the south and west of Texas, and there is a noticable difference in the culture there. Yankee and Southern/Scots-Irish culture USED to be as different from one another as the Yankee and traditional Mexican/Tejano cultures are different from one another today. For example, the oldest churche in Knoxville, TN is 1st Presbyterian, organized in 1792. The first Baptist church was organized in 1843 by, you guessed it, Yankees. Two brothers from New Hampshire organized the church, and it has been terrorizing Southerners ever since. A Southern businessman was traveling through Panama, and saw a sign reading "YANKEE GO HOME!" The tour guide was a bit embarrased, and apologized for hiscountrymen's manners for writing such a thing...The Southerner then told him "don't worry, where I come from we don't like the bastards either!"
