Message: Entry: It Can't Happen Here Link: http://www.takimag.com/blogs/article/it_cant_happen_here#12222 Post contents: @I am not Spartacus: Thanks. I think a lot of the dismissive reaction (as I've discussed in other posts) is not even because people delude themselves about the likelihood of "assimilation" (which historically has not been the norm), but because they are so singlemindedly focused on our other enemies--the neocons in government, the degenerates who control our culture, etc. (You can see some of that in the comments above.) The trouble is that, for these people, the entire world is always divided into two. They can't conceive of the possibility that someone might have two enemies who are not friends of each other. Therefore, if neocons dislike Muslims, than Muslims must be our friends, because we dislike neocons; or if Muslims decry the same degenerate culture that we decry, then we must be on the same side. This is the logic of the playground. It's not the way that adults think. Unfortunately, there are a lot of Americans today who are chronologically adult, but intellectually and morally remain on the playground. Sent at: 2008 07 09
