Message: Entry: Ralph Waldo and the Word Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/ralph_waldo_and_the_word#12727 Post contents: It seems to me that the the primary sense of Logos in Herakleitos, or even St. John, is not moral, and that when Jesus speaks of Himself as the Way his meaning goes far beyond morality. I do not dispute that many Christians and many Taoists might differ on the question of morality -- certainly American Puritans and American nti-Puritan popularizers of "Eastern wisdom" do. On the other hand, I am continually bemused by the way members of Communion and Liberation, that most traditional of Catholic movements, decry what they call "moralism." And I will cheerfully defer to the scholarly expertise of Hieromonks Seraphim and Damascene -- and John C. H. Wu on the Catholic side of the fence as probably sounder than that of the late Mr. Watts, brilliant and charming as the latter undoubtedly was. Sent at: 2008 11 23
