Message: Entry: Ralph Waldo and the Word Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/ralph_waldo_and_the_word#12782 Post contents: I do seem to recall the statement that the Tao is not human; I think I took it to mean that it is not humane in the Confucian sense of the term. I am uneasy with the idea that the universe was created for the sake of man, unless we go further (as you seem to) with the idea that man himself was created for the sake of the Incarnation, of a Theosis not only of man but of the entire cosmos in a way far beyond present human imagining, Confucian or western. If we turn East to escape that we are quite wrong. If we turn East because we have a faint inkling of it and seek a wider grasp, that is a different matter. Alan Watts pointed the way to EST on the one hand -- and to Father Seraphim Rose on the other. Sent at: 2008 10 07
