This ongoing critique of Israel, while reasonable on paper, ignores physical reality in favor of abstraction. The Arabs in Palestine are awful. They were awful before Israel existed and they will be awful if Israel ceases to be. They seek the genocide of the Jews, a prelude to the genocide of us all. They have nothing bad to say about Hitler, they have done nothing with their lands, and every offer for a reasonable peace is met with terror. The Zionist are not my scene, but this "paleo"-whatever infatuation with abstract justice on behalf of the Palestinians while preaching realpolitik elsewhere is either a mendacity or Jew-hatred. Mr. Foy seems to shed more tears for the Iranian mullahs (see his other essays) than for the Swedish babes being gang raped in Malmo courtesy of these people. The hatred of the neoconservatives has led some to lose reason and idealize the neocon's bete noire. The enemy of my enemy is my friends I guess - How adolescent. "Total entitlement at the expense of others" is what Islam represents to the Jews and Christians of that region. As a Catholic, I have no need to become an Israeli citizen, but I was not threatened with beheadings or kidnapping when I visited. But of course, hating William Kristol is more important than being intellectually honest. Sent at: 2008 05 15
