World Warr II had destroyed or weakened the principal anti-Communist powers and left Communists astride both China and the Russian Empire and Communist militnats active all over the world. It was not unreasonable for conservatives to advocate measures to counter this threat. The problem is that the policy spun out of control; instead of holding the line until others could defend themselves, our leaders dtermined to to create a hegemony in the name of anti-Communism.
