In my opinion YOU are top drawer, and not at all (seriously) tacky. You've stuck with taki. GOOD & in your case great. But what about when in Rome? I dropped my ethnic last name precisely Because my dad is (sadly) dead to me. And always will be No ifs ands or buttocks'es about it. However the torah command/suggestion to hold one's parents reverentially as policy at least is good. And i still do.
