And, yes, that is not a victory for the cause of Protestant liberty in our time. My view, however, is that the tradition which Dr. Paul builds on has a better chance of winning more support among Americans than a romanticist return to an imaginary tradition that never took root in the US (not even the South, which has always been overwhelmingly Protestant). I doubt that Dr. Paul would have any more sympathy with a restoration of the ancien regime than he would with the neocon hegemony. Sent at: 2008 11 21
