Message: Entry: Say It Loud: Isolationist-Proud! Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/say_it_loud_isolationist_and_proud#14190 Post contents: The "isolationism" of america's founders is a bit questionable. The diverse lot had differences of opinion. Some really did want to go to war on behalf of revolutionary France, or help "liberate" the Spanish colonies. Our Navy from the get go was imperialist, rasing the flag in Pacific Nations and in some cases improperly accepting petitions by islands like Samoa to join the United States. We fought a Quasi War with France to protect our independence, a series of conflicts with Barbary Pirates, and took on Britain in 1812. From the moment we declared independence, we were an empire, controling the native tribes. These were either tolerated or displaced brutally. The idea of a united isolationist Amreica at its birth is a myth. It is a dangerous one since leftist so easily prove it false to enshrine multi-culturalism or grievence politics. Sent at: 2008 11 21
