Hussein didn't want to interrupt the flow of Middle Eastern oil- he just wanted to be the one collecting the profits by selling it to us! Most oil-rich countries have no other source of revenue (oil aside, the exports of the whole Arab world are less than those of Finland). They can't effectively withold it from us. Why, then, it is suddenly necessary for Americans to go overseas to "protect" oil supplies or "protect" the global economy (which develops because people seek profit, not because governments enforce it) is beyond me.
