As chief editor Pruden has adhered consistently to neocon positions and has purged those workers and dropped those commentators who didn't toe the line. There was no way that Fran was going to be given the top spot, given the newspaper's heavily neocon board. When I was there the book editor used to check with "Norman in New York" so that he could be sure that he was reviewing an appropriate book and was choosing the proper reviewer.
