It was not Jews that McCarthy was after, though it was made to look that way. He was not the one who went after Hollywood, a Jewish enclave (created by Jews,who scorned by the elite, went about creating a new elite - movie stars - whose party invitations they would control). McCarthy attacked the State Department, and that was not a Jewish enclave. Much worse, he attacked WASPs, and it was not so much that the WASPs wanted to protect Communism as that they wanted to deal with their own privately. It was a story of class and ethnicity.
