Message: Entry: Inventing Islam Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/inventing_islam#15517 Post contents: Robert, You might want to continue your pursuit with further questions, that may well throw light to the difference between (some forms of) Christianity and (some forms of) Islam: why was it that in Western Europe the center of innovations moved to north? The industrial revolution happened in England, while the formerly progressive southern European countries became stagnant. Also, do not forget that Europe had been "Christian" for over a millennium, before the southern countries began to flourish scientifically and technologically. What changed here? Could it, for example, be that there are some seemingly very small changes in Christianity that have a disproportionate influence on the effect this religion has on sience and the adoption of technology? Or might the reason be a political causality that is at best indirectly connected to religion? Sent at: 2008 12 02
