We are talking 1975, perhaps 1980 here. It is an equivalent of the Chun-Kuo fighter built by the ROC/Taiwan. The ChiComs can't build any decent fighters by themselves, yet. However, they are co-producing Russian SU-27s and Su-30MKKs and these do concern me. The ChiComs are building anti-ship missles. They are seeling alot of these as well to Iran and Hizbullah. Chinese anti-ship missles work. The INS Hanit, Israel's most advanced corvette was hit by one. (Admittedly the Israeli navy were idiots and decided to turn off thier defense systems to allow for shore bombardment on an anti-aircraft ship.) Fortunately, it was either a small missle or the warhead failed to detonate. (This saved the British a few times in te Falklands conflict). Still that a Chinese missle got past electronic countermeasures is worrysome. The PLA naval has rapidly advanced thanks to purchases from Russia and ex-Soviet states, French and Italian exports, and industrial and military espionage targetting the US and Japan.
