Message: Entry: Obama Bows and Scrapes Link: http://www.takimag.com/blogs/article/obama_bows_and_scrapes#15900 Post contents: If you take out Ron Paul from the equation and look at the remaining field of candidates from both parties, Obama doesn't come out too bad and there is a libertarian rightwing case for Obama. He is talking seriously about tax cuts and seems significantly more skeptical about big government programs to address poverty than Hillary. He seems like he wants to significantly cut back on the warfare state, and in his last debate with Hillary mentioned the "2 trillion dollars wasted" on the Iraq war. He is receiving a lot of support from the powerful antiwar wing of Democratic party and these activists likely would be well represented in an Obama administration. He is of course excellent on civil liberties. His election to the presidency would undoubtedly help race relations at home and would help America's image abroad. Furthermore, he probably will have to move to the center (and on some issues to the right) in the general election as he is perceived as very leftwing and as a "black" candidate. His pandering to AIPAC is the one big negative. Obama should show some guts and take on AIPAC. All he has to say is no more blank checks and blind eyes for Israel, and AIPAC should be treated as a foreign lobby (like other nations). Sent at: 2008 08 30
