Entry: The Right to Shirk Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/the_right_to_shirk#1593 Post contents: A remarkable thing about Mr Navrozov's article, which mentions the "visionary tinker" in nanotechnology desperately seeking support from the President, is that the article must have been written before the 18 April announcement of the creation of the Council on Nanotechnology with initial funding of $1 billion. Unfortunately for the United States, the President in question was not Bush, but Putin: the Council has been formed under the auspices of the Kurchatov Institute in Moscow, with Defence Minister Ivanov at its head and with Putin's benediction regarding "creation of the newest and supereffective weapons" (Associated Press). The "tinker," whom I take to be Dr Eric Drexler, can dream on. Clearly China's nanotechnology lead is far less important to the Bushes of this world than her appetite for hamburgers.
