If RP ran as an independent or Libertarian, he would simply siphon off votes from McCain, aiding Hillary or Obama. Manifestly, McCain may move to the left. However, he will never be as far to the left as H or O. As I see it, it's the same as the Nader influence in 2000, which hurt Al Gore.
