The GOP neocons could easily accuse the Dems of weakness and appeasement if they left Iraq. McCain as president would likely stay the course in Iraq (with Democrat support in Congress) so disastrously (fighting to the last soldier or mercenary) that his regime might trigger a crisis for the two-party system, and an opening for the paleocons.
