Message: Entry: Drive a Stake Through Bush's Amnesty Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/drive_a_stake_through_bushs_amnesty#1701 Post contents: I believe Paul Weyrich is correct. For a couple of days I held the Viguerie view: that THIS time grass roots opposition, regardless of the true feelings of the senators, was too great, too well organized, too clearly expressed to be ignored. And that it would stop the bill from passing the Senate. I was naive. Consider the two corporate stooges from Texas, Cornyn and Hutchinson. Both are clearly moving toward changing their votes (Cornyn's famous contretemps with McCain was pretty much a charade on Cornyn's part-he needed to establish street cred with the folks before finally caving when a few pseudo-concessions are offered by the bill's supporters). That Hutchinson expects her ridiculous touch-back provision to convince voters she oppposes amnesty shows her utter contempt for the Texas electorate. This thing isn't over, the House battle has yet to be fought, but I truly fear the Senate is a lost cause. Sent at: 2008 11 22
