Message: Entry: A March to Nowhere Link: http://www.takimag.com/blogs/article/a_march_to_nowhere#17060 Post contents: I agree that a march would be a waste of resources and largely ineffectual, but I have to disagree with Justin about the third party run. The last time a third party candidate made an impact was (ugh) Perot and he's literally a trivia qu. today. I think Dr. Paul is right to try and run things out until the convention. I know many supporters trying to get elected as delegates (PA) and I think they may have some influence on the convention. Regardless I think he needs to keep hammering out his message and his main ideas, at least so when McCain loses in November the Republicrats may have a ready answer for the loss. Incidentally I support Dr. Paul's efforts to reform the GOP rather than trying to make waves with a third party. When I think about this thankless and Promethean task I remember that "Office Space" line from Michael Bolton: "Why should I change my name? He's the one who sucks." The GOP needs to be constantly reminded that they've abandoned their principles. In light of this I am beginning to wonder if an Obama presidency might not be so bad. I will not vote for him. I fear he would be too easily influenced (his lack of experience makes it hard to judge his character) and his voting record is clearly left-liberal despite all his empty blather about change. Maybe it would be just the thing to galvanize the GOP and help them recover their senses (think- despite its imperfections- of the contract with America). Sent at: 2008 07 20
