And the Soviet Union wasn’t a science whiz until it imported (at gunpoint) Western European scientists after World War II. Up to then, Soviet science was hampered by a dogma every bit as crippling as Orthodox Christianity. As a tragic example, remember Bolshevik “science” gave the world Trofim Lysenko - and his airhead “research” gave a Russian populace a rigorous dose of starvation. Also, before you go whippin’ up on monks, remember Christian monks gave the world the university system of higher education. Top that!
