It seems that neocons and libertarians alike enjoy identifying any kind of statism (which they oppose) with fascism, which empties the meaning of this term. If welfarism were identical to fascism, then fascism would indeed be on the march across the western world. That great libertarian Jefferson condoned certain forms of statism too (loyalty oaths, prosecutions for "sedition," trade embargos, etc.) Yet was Jefferson a fascist?
