Message: Entry: WFB--A Leader Who Lost His Way Link: http://www.takimag.com/blogs/article/wfb_a_leader_who_lost_his_way#18871 Post contents: I have not read much of what Buckley wrote, but I can understand why he may have embraced the neo-cons in an effort to dissuade Russian propaganda. The neo-cons agenda, however, was deeper than just the downfall [temporary as it was] of the militaristic communist threat. And he should have parted ways with them, back then. Does he regret his actions? Im sure he does. I regret many things in life, mostly because I was foolish in my decision. Should I blame this man for his decision to embrace the neo-cons? No more than I can blame myself for the state of governance which we have today. I feel guilty at what America has become, though I surely wasnt alive when much brought us to this point. I suppose thats the sign of a caring and thoughtful man who feels remorse and dooes not rationalise his regrets away by claiming its a virtue to change ones mind in light of new facts. The man was regretful despite new facts which he could have used as crutches, but he did not. And so, to Mr Buckley, Salud. Sent at: 2008 11 23
