In one scene in that film, a Scottish Presbyterian minister tells one of the young protagonists: "I'm afraid God is not a democrat." Around the same time, a colleague of mine at Rockford College, who was a liberal Presbyterian minister, went on a tear against the movie, on the grounds that it "misrepresented our modern faith." My colleague proposed substituting for liturgical references to "God our king" invocations of a "divine president." My own proposal was that the Deity be designated as some kind of "global democratic chairman." Sent at: 2008 05 16
