Loyalty and familiarity often intervene in this process and disguise the fact that your new friend is not a friend at all but simply a kind of caricature of the enemy one once had. These are difficult problems to resolve intelligently. The neoconservatives are like an expensive and ugly date that outlives it's usefulness once one sees it naked. Their crusading philosophy reads like a compendium of all the mistakes made by profligate statists in history. They will hoist themselves on their own petard soon enough and we will all be holding a whopper of a bill, not the least of which is to cover funeral expenses. When one's services consist of a body count and a whopping bill, one runs out of victims soon enough. Perhaps , if there is any justice in this country, Guantanimo will be in its' final throes when the neo-cons are finally seen for what they are and we can toss them in that house of ghosts and throw away the key.
