Message: Entry: Bush & Cheney: It's Time to Resign Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/bush_cheney_its_time_to_resign#1930 Post contents: Patrick Foy replies to Dan Stewart and Jerry Meng... Of course you are right on a certain level. The chances of Cheney and Bush resigning are nil. I recognize that, and would be flabbergasted if they did resign. After all, the article states that resignation "is the only honest course of action." Ergo, by definition it will not happen, taking into account the individuals involved. My endeavor was to point out that a joint resignation of Cheney and Bush should be the logical outcome of the affair based on the fact that (a) their chief clerk lied and obstructed justice on their behalf so as to keep a duplicitous White House policy under wraps, and that (b) Cheney and Bush must surely realize it. They are ultimately responsible. Libby's conviction convicts Cheney directly and Bush indirectly of malfeasance--unless we assume that Bush is totally out of the loop. I see no choice for Bush but to pardon Libby. I do not see how Cheney can allow his chief henchman to sit in jail. Libby might talk to prosecutors or, almost as bad, write a tell-almost-all book. Then again, "Scooter" might be a good soldier and sit there in service to a higher cause. The partisan Democrats have not suggested resignation of Cheney and Bush in the wake of the Libby conviction, because the Democrats have Cheney and Bush right where they want them. Twisting slowly in the wind and a perfect target from here on out. Note that Hillary stays far away from the Libby conviction. It's a non-subject. Among other accomplishments, Cheney and Bush have destroyed the Republican Party. The Democrats see a feast ahead. They believe they just have to allow the White House and the befuddled Republicans in Congress to further self-destruct. That is the game plan. We are getting the government we deserve, all right, but do the "American people" deserve the blame? It could be argued that due to the brainwash and the blackout, the public has been deliberately misinformed for decades, most especially when it comes to foreign policy, and most definitively with respect to the Middle East. Hence, the present train wreck. The situation could be viewed as imposed from the top down. Patrick ===== Sent at: 2008 07 20
