In the 19th C and much of the 20th, the Real Conservative parties (eg Tory, Carlist, Jacobite, and Legitimist) and Ultramontane Catholic parties were not the Nationalist Parties, and for good reason. The French Radicals in 1906 and Bismarck before them persecuted Catholics as being "un-French" and "un-German" respectively.
