Message: Entry: My Country of Flickering Lights -- Dispatches from the New South Africa Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/my_country_of_flickering_light_dispatches_from_the_new_south_africa#19837 Post contents: Asia had centuries of civilization to build on 40 years ago. The colonial era was just a brief setback for a region that was on par with some of the great civilizations of the past. Africa too had great civilizations, but as these fell nothing replaced them and there was nothing ruins and foriegn aid and influence to build on. Possibly some futute Afrocentric culture will take hold and rise to the level of Asia or the West but it will take much more than 40 years. Sent at: 2008 08 21
