Message: Entry: A Chosen People without God--The Rise of the Neocons Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/a_chosen_people_without_god_the_rise_of_the_neocons#20114 Post contents: Mr. Havers makes some interesting arguments but he is remiss in not mentioning a principal reason for neoconservative ideas becoming Republican-conservative orthodoxy. Gentile pundits and politicians find it financially and socially rewarding to be reflexively pro-Israel and enemies of "Islamo-fascism." Would a conservative pundit appear on Fox News or write essays for Wall Street Journal, National Review or the Weekly Standard if they were critical of Israel or opposed the Iraq War fiasco? Frankly, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Fred Barnes, and scores of other conservatives have become quite wealthy internalizing neoconservative pieties. Apart from Pat Buchanan, no conservative politician or pundit who has access to the mainstream media had the courage to oppose the Iraq War, the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in which over 1,000 civilians were killed (many of whom were Christians), or the coming conflict with Iran.
