Message: Entry: A Chosen People without God--The Rise of the Neocons Link: http://www.takimag.com/site/article/a_chosen_people_without_god_the_rise_of_the_neocons#20151 Post contents: Grant Havers just showed me a copy of his perceptive review in Vancouver, where I am speaking at his university. I think Leon is correct that Grant has produced a thoughtful study of a dismally mediocre book, which obviously looks like the kind of pseudo-critical evaluation of their dubious achievements that neocons and their liberal buds would encourage. Among Grant's points that are well taken is that Heilbrunn's attempt to distinguish between WASP wealth and neocon braininess exemplifies the PC cringe. Multinationals and others have showered the neocons with largess because they are useful propagandists. It is not because neocon vulgarians have exhibited higher cognitive abilities than did Anglo-Saxon Protestants like George Kennan. Is Heilbrunn criticizing the neocons or simply sucking up to them?
